| In recent years, the issue of environmental pollution has increasingly attracted the attention of all sectors of society. The country has also actively introduced relevant policies and taken actions to deal with environmental pollution, such as winning the battle of protecting the blue sky, resolutely fighting the battle of pollution prevention and control, and building a beautiful China. However, environmental pollution is prone to induce various diseases, resulting in damage to the physical and mental health of the public and entering the trap of "environmental health poverty".Commercial health insurance is a product of the market economy and an effective tool for the public to hedge health risks. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the relationship between environmental pollution and commercial health insurance consumption in order to protect people’s life and health safety and promote the implementation of the "Healthy China" strategy. In view of this, this paper uses qualitative analysis and empirical analysis to study the impact of environmental pollution on commercial health insurance consumption. In terms of qualitative analysis, the paper combed the relevant literature, summarized the development of environmental pollution and commercial health insurance, and used Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, environmental psychology theory, information asymmetry theory and Grossman’s health capital theory to analyze the relationship between environmental pollution and commercial health insurance consumption.Based on the above theoretical analysis From the perspective of psychological and economic costs, the path of environmental pollution affecting commercial health insurance consumption is constructed. In terms of the empirical analysis method, the panel data of 30 provinces from 2008 to2020 are used to construct the environmental pollution index as the core explanatory variable through the entropy weight method for waste water, waste gas and solid waste, and the insurance density of commercial health insurance is used as the explanatory variable for the full-sample regression analysis. At the same time, the sub-sample analysis is carried out according to the classification of long-term and short-term health insurance, the classification of eastern and central regions, and the classification of time periods. In addition, the cross product of environmental pollution index and risk perception related variables is introduced to analyze the regulatory effect, and the risk perception related variables are used as the threshold variables to analyze the threshold effect. Moreover, considering the spatial dependence, the consumption of commercial health insurance is not only affected by the environmental pollution in the province but also by the environmental pollution in the neighboring provinces. The Moran index is introduced to test the spatial correlation and build a spatial econometric regression model to analyze the spatial spillover effect of environmental pollution.Through empirical analysis, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1)Environmental pollution has a significant promoting effect on the consumption of commercial health insurance;(2)From the perspective of sub-samples,the impact of environmental pollution on the consumption of commercial health insurance is stronger in the long term than in the short term, and the impact of environmental pollution is stronger in the eastern region than in the central and western regions After 2016,it is more significant than in the previous period;(3)The higher the public’s risk perception, the stronger the impact on the behavioral decision of commercial health insurance consumption to transfer risks, and this impact also has differences before and after the threshold of risk perception;(4)Due to the dependence of space, environmental pollution has a positive spatial spillover effect on the consumption of commercial health insurance.According to the conclusion, this paper gives corresponding suggestions to the public, insurance companies and different subjects of the government:(1)From the perspective of the public, use the Internet and other media channels to improve the level of risk perception and do a good job in their own health risk management;(2)From the perspective of insurance companies, incorporate environmental pollution factors into the determination of commercial health insurance rates, and price differently for different regions to improve the competitiveness of commercial health insurance products;(3)From the perspective of the government,we should promote the construction of a medical and health data sharing platform, develop more risk management tools to deal with environmental pollution, and strengthen the joint prevention and control capabilities of various governments for environmental pollution spillovers. Finally, the research of this paper is to expand the relationship between environmental pollution and commercial health insurance consumption, and provide certain reference significance for further research in health economics and insurance economics. |
