| With the rapid development of industrialization, fossil energy has been exploited and utilized in large quantities.Greenhouse gas emissions have further intensified, resulting in many ecological and environmental problems.Global warming has become a common global challenge.China has become the world’s largest carbon emitter and it is under great pressure to reduce carbon emissions. In 2020,General Secretary Xi Jinping solemnly proposed China’s carbon emission reduction goals at the United Nations General Assembly. That is,strive to reach the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 and achiev e carbon neutralization by 2060.The "14th Five-Year Plan" and the 2035 vision have also made clear arr angements for carbon emissions. In the coming period, carbon peak and carbon neutralization will be an important issue. At the same time, the digital economy is profoundly changing people’s production and lifestyle. The development of the digital economy b rings gratifying economic effects and has a certain impact on the environment. At present, the research on the environmental effect of the digital economy has not formed a unified conclusion in the academic circles. And there are relatively few studies on the influence of digital economy development on carbon emissions. How does the development of the digital economy affect carbon emissions? This question has not been clearly answered. Therefore, this paper will have great theoretical and practical signific ance in studying the impact of digital economy development on China’s carbon emissions through empirical analysis.Firstly, this paper combs and reviews the literature related to the digital economy and carbon emission, and expounds on the theoretical basi s of this paper and formulate research hypotheses.Secondly, based on relevant references, closely follow the core connotation of the digital economy, build a comprehensive evaluation index system of the digital economy, and calculate the comprehensive dev elopment index of the digital economy by using the entropy method.Furthermore, the impact of the digital economy on carbon dioxide emissions is analyzed using the System GMM model and panel quantile regression model. It is found that from the dynamic panel regression results, the first-order lag term of carbon dioxide emissions significantly increases carbon dioxide emissions. The development of the digital economy has significantly increased carbon dioxide emissions during the sample period, which is spec ifically reflected in the increase of carbon dioxide emissions by 0.062 for each unit of digital economy development.Energy intensity, population size and energy structure dominated by fossil energy significantly increase carbon dioxide emissions. The reg ression coefficient of urbanization and industrialization rate is positive, but its coefficient is not significant.Judging from the panel quantile regression model, the impact of the digital economy on carbon dioxide emissions has significant heterogeneit y during the sample period. The development of the digital economy has a greater impact on areas with high carbon emissions. The control variable energy intensity shows the characteristics of a large regression coefficient at both ends of the quantile and a small regression coefficient at the middle quantile.Overall, the population size and industrialization have a greater influence on low-carbon emission regions.Urbanization and energy structure dominated by fossil energy have a greater impact in areas w ith high carbon emissions. Finally, based on the above empirical results and according to the actual situation in China, this paper proposes to start with digital infrastructure, deepening the energy revolution;Improve the green level of digital equipment technology;Digital technology feedback to improve the level of emission reduction control;Multi-party entities jointly practice green and low-carbon goals. |
