Research On The Value And Application Of "Appreciating Ugliness" In Modern Fashion Design

Since the 20 th century,as people’s aesthetic activities have gradually moved from pleasure and fluency to complexity and obscurity.Ugliness has more tension and rheology than beauty,therefore,the connotation of ugliness is more abundant and has the function of social criticism.Modern artists express the "social ugliness" in their works of art,completing the internalization of reality in their works of art,so as to achieve the social expression of works of art.Secondly,"appreciation of ugliness" meets people’s needs for new and unique things,and anti popular aesthetics also meets some people’s psychology of seeking differences.Therefore,the grotesque appreciation of ugliness has gradually developed into a popular trend today.The rise of the trend of thought in judging ugliness today means the change of aesthetics,the impact of modern aesthetics on classical aesthetics,and the rebellion against traditional aesthetic standards.It can be seen that judging ugliness is a typical modernity problem.Culture reflects society,and fashion is an inevitable part of social culture,so modern fashion design fully demonstrates the characteristics of the trend of ugly appreciation.The classic silhouette and harmony of clothing under the traditional aesthetic threshold is no longer the only measurement standard of modern clothing design.People began to pursue novel and interesting clothing.Designers started from ugly things and forms to expand the thinking of clothing design.The appreciation of ugliness expands the aesthetic category of clothing.This paper,based on the value of "appreciation of ugliness" in modern clothing design as a theoretical starting point and the definition and evolution process of "ugliness" as a research basis,analyzes the application of the elements of appreciation of ugliness in clothing,as well as the process of the public’s cognitive change of ugly clothing.And through the comprehensive analysis of the art of ugly appreciation and many examples of domestic and foreign fashion designers,on this basis,the "ugly appreciation" element is innovatively studied in design methods,and inspiration is drawn from ugly things to carry out creative transformation design,so as to create a more diversified clothing,which has some inspiration for the future research on multi-level understanding of fashion design.
