| Since the 14 th Five-Year Plan for the development of museums in Shaanxi and the construction of the ’City of Museums’ in Baoji, local museum buildings in the Guanzhong region have become increasingly concerned with culture-related matters. In recent years, the state and some regions have issued a series of documents and policies related to museum development, making the heritage of local culture a common concern for the state, the city and the people.Local history museums are important cultural carriers, with important cultural heritage and propaganda functions. In the current social environment,it is a matter of concern how to give full play to the propaganda role of museums, and to preserve and pass on local culture. Therefore, building a local history museum requires a deep understanding of the cultural characteristics of the area in which it is located and a stronger sense of belonging of local residents to their own culture and the museum in order to realise the transmission of local culture. The aim of this paper is to place local history museums in the context of the’localness’ of their locations and to explore the development of these museums in that context.Taking the local museums of the Guanzhong region as the main object of study, the paper analyses typical cases from the concept of ’locality’ in architectural design, and summarises the characteristics and strategies of ’locality’ design for local museums in the Guanzhong region.Firstly, this paper aims to introduce the development, concepts and characteristics of the concept of ’in situ’,and to analyse the definition, development, characteristics and practices of local museums in order to explore the relationship between the two.The principles of ’in situ’ design for local museums are summarised: the response to the’originality’ of the local environment, the continuation of the ’permeability’ of the local culture, and the application of the ’appropriateness’ of the local constructs."The ’in situ’expression of local museums is to fully respect and accommodate the original elements of the site, and to purposefully design museum buildings that belong only to the ’here, now and now’.The museum building is designed to belong to the " here, now and now ".Secondly,an overview of the Guanzhong region is analysed and typical local museum cases in the Guanzhong region are introduced to summarise the design elements of regional ’locality’,and the three aspects of environmental adaptability in the spirit of place dimension, cultural continuity in the space-time scenario dimension and technical inheritance in the constructive culture dimension are presented. In this way,the theoretical basis for the specific design strategies in the next chapter is provided through an in-depth interpretation of the design of local museums in terms of" localness ".Through the detailed analysis and study of typical case studies, the design strategies for local museums are summarised, ranging from " born in the place ": the" natural environment " that is inherent in the place,to " feeling " the place. The design of local museums is based on the following three aspects: " born in the place ": the natural environment," feeling in the place ": the " humanistic culture " that returns to the homeland, and " growing in the place ": the " local technology " that keeps up with the times." These three aspects are discussed and strategies are suggested in relation to relevant cases. Finally, the design strategy is applied to the design of the Lingyou Jiuchenggong Museum, which provides some design ideas for other museums or other related types of buildings in the Guanzhong region through the practical application of the project. |
