| Industrial robot is a product of technological progress.It has the characteristics of easy change of mechanical structure,repeatable programming for different scenes and automatic control.It can effectively improve labor productivity when put into use in manufacturing activities.Under the background of Industry 4.0,the country has issued various industrial robot policies.At the same time,based on the data of the number of industrial robots in China in recent years,there is a large demand for industrial robots in the manufacturing industry.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the impact of industrial robot applications on the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry,and how industrial robots affect the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry.This paper first analyzes the impact path of industrial robot application on the labor productivity of manufacturing industry from the theoretical level,and then calculates the labor productivity and industrial robot penetration of China’s manufacturing industry by province from 2012 to 2020,and analyzes the current situation of manufacturing labor productivity and industrial robot application,It lays the data foundation for the following empirical research and clarifies the current situation of industrial robot application and manufacturing labor productivity in China.On this basis,the direct impact of industrial robots is analyzed through benchmark regression model and robustness test;Then,this paper uses the stepwise regression method and Bootstrap method to test and analyze the intermediary mechanism that industrial robots affect the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry;Finally,this paper constructs a spatial Doberman model to analyze the possible spatial effects of industrial robots on manufacturing labor productivity.Based on labor productivity theory,economic growth theory and technology innovation theory,this paper discusses the action mechanism of the application of industrial robots on manufacturing labor productivity from two aspects: the direct effect of industrial robots on labor productivity,and the intermediary effect of human capital,labor remuneration and technology innovation.This paper holds that the application of industrial robots has a destructive substitution effect and a creative auxiliary effect on the production activities of the manufacturing industry,which together constitute a direct impact on the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry;In terms of human capital,the application of industrial robots will improve the level of human capital of manufacturing employees.Through the impact on the level of human capital,it will have an impact on manufacturing labor productivity;In terms of labor remuneration,the application of industrial robots will improve the wage level of manufacturing employees,and the improvement of labor remuneration can effectively promote the improvement of labor productivity;In terms of technological innovation,the application of industrial robots will promote manufacturing enterprises to develop supporting facilities and patents,improve their independent research and development capabilities,and the enhancement of innovation capabilities will further affect the manufacturing labor productivity;At the same time,due to the diffusion effect of technological progress in space,industrial robots,as the product of technological progress,not only affect the labor productivity of the region,but also affect the labor productivity of adjacent regions.This paper constructs the benchmark regression model,the intermediary effect model and the spatial Dubin model,uses the panel data of 23 provinces and cities in China from 2012 to 2020 to empirically test the direct impact effect,the indirect impact effect and the spatial impact effect,and tests the heterogeneity of industrial robot applications to examine their impact effects in the eastern,central and western regions.The empirical results show that the application of industrial robots has a direct positive effect on the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry,which directly promotes the improvement of the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry;The intermediary effects of human capital,labor remuneration and technological innovation are also significantly positive,indicating that the application of industrial robots has improved the human capital level of manufacturing employees,played a significant role in improving the wage level of manufacturing employees,and promoted the innovation ability of manufacturing enterprises.All three have promoted the improvement of labor productivity in manufacturing;In the intermediary effect,labor remuneration plays a greater role as an intermediary variable,indicating that labor remuneration is more sensitive to the application of industrial robots.At the same time,the level of human capital and technological innovation are also channels to improve labor productivity in manufacturing,but the intermediary effect is weaker than labor remuneration;The impact of industrial robot application on regional manufacturing labor productivity has significant differences,with the most significant impact in the eastern region,followed by the central region,and not significant impact in the western region;The spatial econometric model test shows that the application of industrial robots not only promotes the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry in this region,but also significantly improves the economic attributes of regions with similar economic attributes.Finally,according to the research conclusion,this paper puts forward to attach importance to the construction of talent team and strive to improve human capital;Strengthen technology R&D and improve innovation capability;Improve the implementation of industrial robot industry policies,improve financial support and other policy recommendations,with a view to further improving the labor productivity of the manufacturing industry through the application of industrial robots.
