Research On Modern Catholic Church Architecture In Jilin Province

Since modern times,with the gradual spread and development of Catholicism in Jilin Province,missionaries have carried out a large number of church construction projects.Currently,there is a lack of relevant research on most of the church buildings in Jilin Province in academia,and there is no systematic study on Catholic church architecture in Jilin Province.Based on the aforementioned issues,the author conducts research on modern Catholic church architecture in Jilin Province through field surveys,historical data research,and other methods,supplementing the relevant discussions in this field.This article is divided into three parts:Part 1: Starting from the aspects of the spread and development of Catholicism,as well as the evolution of church architectural styles,it provides an overall summary and analysis of the status quo of the spread and development of Catholicism in modern Jilin Province,the division of dioceses,and the characteristics of spread and development.It also summarizes the development and evolution of Western church architectural styles.Part 2: Through field surveys,investigations,and historical literature reviews,the article summarizes and analyzes the types of modern Catholic church buildings,the distribution of churches,and the history of churches in Jilin Province.From the perspective of architecture,a detailed description of each church building is provided.Part 3: Based on the study of case examples of modern Catholic church architecture in Jilin Province,this part systematically summarizes and analyzes the characteristics of Jilin Province’s modern Catholic church architecture from aspects such as courtyard spatial layout,floor plan layout,facade features,interior spaces,structural forms,and detailed construction practices.Finally,the reasons for the localization of church architecture in Jilin region are discussed.In this study,the characteristics of the modern Catholic church architecture system in Jilin Province are summarized and analyzed,and some church survey drawings and church architecture lists are compiled.The conclusion is drawn that due to the significant differences in geographical climate,building materials,regional culture,and craftsmanship between Jilin Province and the West,local materials and construction techniques familiar to local craftsmen were extensively used in the construction of Catholic churches,resulting in the localization characteristics of modern Catholic church architecture in Jilin Province.This process is both the localization of Western churches and the development of local construction techniques influenced by Western architectural culture.The research on modern Catholic church architecture in Jilin Province is of great significance,providing theoretical basis for future church preservation and restoration projects,supplying historical materials for the spread and development of Catholicism in Jilin region from the perspective of architecture,and serving as indispensable preliminary work for the development of Catholic cultural tourism industry in the local area,as well as a reference for the study of modern construction techniques and their development in Jilin Province.
