| In the context of rapid urbanization in China, urban expansion has forced many villages to merge into cities, and urban villages have been born as a result. In this process, urban and rural spaces have evolved and developed, with some rural spaces integrating into urban spaces, making villages urbanized and villagers citizenized.Although some rural spaces have been surrounded by cities, they still maintain the basic physical and social structure of the countryside and cannot be integrated into the cities, and are isolated from the urban areas both spatially and socially. In recent years, this issue has continued to receive attention, and following the State Council’s "Opinions on Deepening the New Type of Urbanization" in 2016,which proposed to actively promote the citizenship process of the agricultural transfer population, the national "14th Five-Year Plan" proposed to "accelerate the full integration of the agricultural transfer population into the city".Therefore, spatial and social integration has become an important goal of urban village renewal in the new era.As the transition space between urban villages and cities, the edge space should be the most conducive to information exchange with cities, but many urban village edge spaces have problems such as rigid connection with urban spaces, stagnant development and low environmental quality. In traditional urban regeneration,it tends to focus only on the renewal and transformation of the internal space of urban villages, ignoring the spatial improvement of the edge space, spatial connection, and the material needs of the space on the other side of the urban village outside. These problems have put forward new requirements for urban village renewal design.China’s urbanization process has entered the middle and late stages, and in the context of emphasizing "people-oriented" and "stock optimization",exploring how to combine urban renewal with "city-village" social integration will improve the quality of urban renewal. In the context of emphasizing "people-oriented" and "stock optimization",exploring how to combine urban renewal with "city-village" social integration will improve the quality of life of urban village residents in the city and enhance high-quality urban development. This thesis investigates the relationship between the built environment and social integration in urban villages, and identifies the indicators and suggested values of the built environment on social integration,so as to propose an optimization strategy to catalyze the social integration in urban villages by using the renewal of edge spaces as a catalyst.Based on in-depth research, this study firstly summarizes and analyzes the characteristics of urban villages in Xuzhou City and the characteristics of urban village fringe spaces, and then classifies urban village fringe spaces into three categories from the perspective of social integration, namely: isolated,semi-open,and open.Next, correlation analysis was applied to determine the correlation between the perception of social integration, use vitality and built environment indicators. Finally, based on the above analysis, the existing problems of urban village edge spaces are clarified, and the relevant design guidelines are combined to propose an optimization strategy for urban village edge spaces.Based on the above analysis,we clarify the existing problems of urban village edge spaces, propose optimization strategies for urban village edge spaces with relevant design guidelines, and update the design of three types of edge spaces. |
