Research On The Renewal Design Of Pedestrian Bridges In The Central Urban Area Of Chongqing From The Perspective Of Environmental Behaviorism

Pedestrian bridges,as urban transportation infrastructure,are public spaces that integrate transportation functions and public communication.While providing a path for pedestrians,they also carry a variety of public activities for residents.However,the development of traditional pedestrian bridges often starts from an engineering perspective,focusing on the location,materials,structure,and construction technology of the pedestrian bridge itself,ignoring the interaction with the surrounding environment and the coordinated development with the urban area.This leads to a common construction model where each entity operates independently,resulting in a single functional form and low-quality spatial environment that cannot meet the behavioral needs of users or the functional and developmental needs of modern cities.As the path of urban development gradually shifts from incremental planning to stock management,the renewal and revitalization of urban stock space is the development trend of urban stock planning and construction at this stage.Therefore,the revitalization and reuse of pedestrian bridges has become one of the driving forces for improving the quality and connotation of contemporary cities.However,due to the traditional large-scale and extensive urban renewal often ignoring the behavioral characteristics and human needs of users,the renewal of pedestrian bridges is mainly based on improving the physical environment,which cannot respond to fundamental problems such as insufficient vitality of pedestrian bridges.Therefore,this paper takes pedestrian bridges and their strongly related spaces as research objects,with environmental behaviorism theory and research methods as the main entry point.It focuses on exploring how to activate the urban public space attributes of pedestrian bridges from the perspective of user behavior activities and shape highquality and vibrant urban public spaces to drive the renewal and development of overall urban blocks.The paper follows the research ideas of proposing problems,analyzing problems,and solving problems to deeply analyze the renewal design strategies of pedestrian bridges and their strongly related spaces.Firstly,by sorting out the development context and research status of pedestrian bridges and environmental behaviorism theories at home and abroad,the entry point for applying environmental behaviorism theory to the renewal design research of pedestrian bridges is extracted.Secondly,taking pedestrian bridges and their strongly related spaces as research objects,starting from the dimensions of place and function of pedestrian bridges,and comprehensively considering the land use nature of the region where the pedestrian bridge is located,the pedestrian bridges in the central urban area of Chongqing are divided into life service type pedestrian bridges,commercial service type pedestrian bridges,and public service type pedestrian bridges.At the same time,according to the degree of behavioral communication and visual interaction between the user subject and the interface,pedestrian bridges are divided into interactive interfaces,permeable interfaces,closed interfaces,and mixed interfaces.Finally,twelve pedestrian bridges with different types and representative interfaces were selected as sample surveys.Furthermore,behavioral observation methods and questionnaire surveys were used to conduct detailed surveys on the physical spatial environment and crowd behavior patterns of pedestrian bridges.By deeply exploring the demands of different behavioral activity modes on spatial environmental elements on pedestrian bridges,it was concluded that factors affecting user behavior activities are scale proportions,facility configuration,greening landscape,and plane shape.Specific renewal measures were proposed in the later renewal design.Considering the current situation that pedestrian bridges in the central urban area of Chongqing are widely distributed and at different development stages,a multi-dimensional,multi-level,multi-plan renewal design system is established based on the land development intensity,spatial basic conditions and service function carrying capacity of the region where the pedestrian bridge is located.This will achieve sustainable development from environmental quality optimization to space vitality enhancement for pedestrian bridges.Finally,life service type,commercial service type and public service type pedestrian bridges in Chongqing’s central urban area were selected for renewal design practice in order to provide useful reference for subsequent theoretical research and construction practice of renewal design for pedestrian bridges.
