| From the perspective of urban construction, the pedestrian efficiency of university historical campuses is of great significance to the construction of pedestrian-friendly cities, and university historical campuses are important areas of pedestrian-friendly cities. From the perspective of campus planning, the pedestrian efficiency of university historical campuses is one of the key factors affecting the quality of campus environment, and improving the pedestrian efficiency of university historical campuses is conducive to enhancing the overall campus environment to form a pedestrian-friendly campus and strengthening the willingness of people to walk. However, the pedestrian efficiency and walkability of some of the historical university campuses in China are not ideal at present, because the existing pedestrian network of the historical university campuses has been expanded many times and there are no axial relationships, the traffic lines are basically distributed in clusters, the connections between nodes are not strong, and the pedestrians have to walk long distances to reach their destinations. This study focuses on "pedestrian efficiency".This study focuses on "pedestrian efficiency" and establishes a system and method to evaluate the pedestrian efficiency of the university campus based on relevant theories and experiences, and applies it to a typical case of Wuhan University core area for empirical analysis. This paper firstly explains and analyzes the concepts of "historical campus","campus walking system","big data" and "traffic simulation".The next step is to select the core area of Wuhan University as the research object according to the field survey, and the empirical study is divided into four parts:(1)Establishing the evaluation index system of the walking efficiency of the university’s historical campus: integrating the data from the field survey and web crawling. The evaluation index system of campus walking efficiency: Integrating the data information from the field survey and web crawling, and the walking activity habits of pedestrians on and off campus, the evaluation indexes are divided into constructing walking road planning indexes, average pedestrian flow service indexes of walking roads, and quantitative indexes of walking road facilities and environment.(2)Measure the accessibility of walking paths in the core area of Wuhan University based on Depthmap X.(3)Build a pedestrian simulation model based on Rhino+Pdsim platform to simulate the number of pedestrians in the core area of Wuhan University and validate the simulation with Baidu heat map data.(4)To study the specific walking paths in the core area of Wuhan University with the field conditions.(5)To sort out the planning history of the core area of Wuhan University, compile the changes of the driving force of the domain circle in the site, and study the changes of its walking efficiency. After research and analysis,we got the following conclusions:(1)The accessibility of pedestrian roads is the best in the middle area of Cherry Blossom Avenue and Humanities Road, and the connectivity with the surrounding roads and buildings is the closest, and the accessibility is the highest level five.Secondly, the accessibility of Wenti Road and Ziqiang Avenue is also good, with accessibility of grade four. The accessibility of the remaining roads, such as Guiyuan Road,Meiyuan Road and North Cherry Garden Road,is slightly weaker.(2)The conclusion of the simulation study on the number of pedestrians:the domain circle-social force model matching degree is about 79.65%.Among them,Sakurayuan Avenue is slightly congested, and the rest of the roads basically meet the pedestrian traffic requirements.(3)Conclusion of specific walking road study: From the overall trend, the walking roads in the study area all scored above 70,and Sakura Avenue walking road facilities scored slightly lower at 65,with good overall walkability. This paper then proceeds to conduct a scenario study on the pedestrian efficiency of the university’s historic campus, and proposes optimization of the pedestrian paths in the core area of Wuhan University based on the previous assessment of the current situation. This paper proposes to increase the pedestrian efficiency of the core area by increasing road connectivity and traffic control. Then,we conducted a simulation study on the pedestrian efficiency of the university’s historical campus by using the previously constructed "domain circle-social force" model. For the special situation of cherry blossom viewing season from March to April,Wuhan University is divided into two scenarios: weekday and non-weekday.The number and distribution of pedestrians on the roads in the core area of Wuhan University are simulated for weekdays and non-weekdays respectively, and the pedestrian density is obtained to further determine the pedestrian efficiency of the roads. Finally, this paper combines the key factors affecting the walking efficiency of the university’s historical campus and proposes corresponding suggestions for the optimization of the walking network and the optimization of the campus management. The future application of the model is also clarified to explore the shortcomings and outlook of the study. |
