Study On Investigation And Application Of Roof Edible Plant Materials In Guangzhou City

The research and application of the edible landscape are developing with the environmental problems as well as a series food safety problems in the process of urbanization.In the context of high-density cities,roof edible landscape is an effective way to promote and develop urban agriculture.It not only plays an ecological role of cooling,humidification,energy conservation,and consumption reduction,but also effectively promotes community interaction and urban environmental education,and promotes sustainable living.As a typical representative of high-density cities,Guangzhou still faces many problems in the promotion of edible landscapes in roof space,such as the promotion of roof planting technology,public participation,and policy support.From the basic issues of planting technology and landscape design,this paper tried to sort out edible plants suitable for roof-planting in the native landscapes,and from the perspective of plant landscaping,discussed the application strategies of edible plants on the small –scale rooftop garden.The following are the main research results.(1)The application of edible plant materials was based on “people—places—season”.Organizing edible plants could be done from the perspectives of local planting preference surveys,roof adaptability evaluation,and seasonal characteristics analysis.First,the frequency of local edible plant application surveys and questionnaire interviews was used to summarize the types of planting preferred by the local community.Second,through the roof planting test,adaptive evaluation indicators and evaluation standards were established to combine the growth performance of edible plants,and screened out those with strong adaptability.Thirdly,based on seasonal characteristics and landscape needs,this paper analyzed the ornamental characteristics of edible plant materials,and sorted out the plant species and their morphological characteristics in different seasons.The design of roof edible landscape should meet the principles of safety,health and sustainability.The specific strategies and models of plant landscape design can be developed from the dimensions of space,time and biodiversity.From the spatial design dimension,edible landscape design elements included the number of plant varieties,elevation design,color combination,planting scale,plan layout,etc.From the perspective of seasonal design,the paper considers the seasonal phase and rotation plan of the edible landscape..From the perspective of biodiversity,edible plant landscape mainly focused on the reciprocal symbiosis between plants,so as to realize the ecological value of small-scale roof.(2)The edible plants suitable for Guangzhou roof planting were sorted out.First,this article investigated the edible landscapes in Guangzhou,Shenzhen,and other places.It was concluded that there were 227 edible plants(including varieties and cultivars)commonly used in local landscapes.Among them,111 edible plants were applied more frequently overall,and there were 60 species applied more frequently in the roof space.Secondly,113 types of edible plants were tested on the roof and summarized the heat-resistant,pest-resistant,rodent-resistant,drought-resistant,and typhoon-resistant species,which offered a material selection for roof-edible landscape promotion.Based on seasonal characteristics and landscaping needs,the cognition of edible plant materials was summarized as “5 + 1” models.That was,by analyzing the the edible plant’s planting season,ornamental organ,color,shape,height,and texture,it summarized the seasonal distribution of plant materials and the ornamental characteristics of edible plant in each season.(3)Based on the principles of health,safety,and ecology,6 types of combination method of edible plants were concluded,including bordered ground cover,large-scale landscapes,hedges,Visual focus plants + base plants + striped ground cover,Visual focus plants with bordered plants,etc.In addition,this article explored strategies for combining ingredients with different themes to suit different dietary preferences and promotion needs.Last but not the least,it mainly analyzed rotation method and seasonal replacement of edible landscapes.Finally,it is proposed that mixed planting is an effective strategy for both food safety output and ornamental effect.This paper combined field surveys and planting practices,listed the edible plants on the roof from the perspectives of “people—places—season”.It also summarized the methods for edible landscape on the urban roof from the space,time,and biodiversity dimensions,which provided a reference for roof edible landscape development in Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta Area.
