Toxoplasmosis,as a zoonotic disease, can be effectively prevented by no vaccine at present, which greatly affects people’s life and property security.Dogs and cats,as the largest number and most widely housed pets, and cats,as Toxoplasma terminal hosts, play an important role in transmitting Toxoplasma gondii, resulting in a greatly increased risk of Toxoplasma infection from pets to humans. However, there are few investigations on the infection status of pet Toxoplasma in Urumqi city of Xinjiang in recent years, and there is no knowledge about the infection status of pet Toxoplasma in local, which further increases the risk of human infection with T.gondii.The purpose of this study was to investigate Toxoplasma gondii infection in pet dogs and cats in Urumqi City, identify the influencing Toxoplasma gondii infection factors by analysis, and conduct prophylactic publicity among petting hosts,as a way to increase the understanding of Toxoplasmosis among petting hosts, change wrong petting practices, and reduce the risk of Toxoplasmosis transmission from pets to humans. In this trial,a total of 1122 blood samples of pet dogs and cats were collected from March 1,2021 to February 28,2022 at some pet hospitals in Urumqi,Xinjiang,China, and tested by using a pet dog and cat Toxoplasma gondii serum antibody ELISA test kit,and the correlation between age, sex, season, region, type of diet, and mode of feeding and Toxoplasma gondii infection was analyzed by SPSS software. The results showed that the overall positive rate was 23.57%(153 / 649)in pet dogs and 18.60%(88 / 473)in pet cats.A total of 52 stool samples were collected from 88 pet cat positive specimens, and microscopic examination failed to reveal Toxoplasma oocysts.Chi square analysis using SPSS revealed that gender did not significantly affect T.gondii infection(P > 0.05).When we divided the age groups into 4 groups younger than 12 months,12 to 36 months,37 to 60 months, and older than 60 months, the results showed that the positive rate of Toxoplasma antibodies in pet dogs older than 60 months was significantly higher than that in the other 3groups(P < 0.05),and there was no difference in the prevalence of Toxoplasma infection in pet cats between the age groups(P > 0.05).There was no difference in the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii antibodies among the four seasons(P > 0.05),and the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii antibodies in pet cats was significantly higher in winter than in summer and fall seasons(P < 0.05),but not different from that in spring(P > 0.05).A total of 19 breeds of pet dog were collected in this trial,11 breeds of pet cat,and there was no difference between various breeds of pet dog and cat. When categorized according to different husbandry practices,the3 groups with total house keeping, occasional out going, and free going out showed that the positive rate of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in the group with pet keeping at home was significantly lower than that in the free going group(P < 0.05).Classified according to different diet types, pet cats were divided into 4groups of pure cat diet, cat diet plus cooked food, cat diet plus raw food, and ad libitum feeding, and pet dogs were divided into 3 groups of pure Dog Diet, dog diet plus cooked food, and dog diet plus cooked food. The results of this analysis showed that the positive rate of Toxoplasma antibodies in pet cats fed pure cat diet was significantly lower than that in the other 3 groups(P < 0.05),and there was no significant difference among the 3 groups of pet dogs(P > 0.05).Investigating the impact of pet dog and cat anthelmintic status on Toxoplasma gondii infection revealed that taking anthelmintics on time was effective in reducing the infection rate(P < 0.05).A survey of visited pet hospitals found that some hospitals reported less awareness of Toxoplasmosis, most owners were unfamiliar with Toxoplasmosis, and there was an error in how pets were raised. Therefore, the pet owners publicized the harm and preventive measures of Toxoplasmosis, and recommended Toxoplasmosis deworming drugs for pet owners who were positive in the test.the number of people in this promotion was about 300,and most pet owners chose to feed their pets with insect repellents. The results of SPSS analysis showed that season, age, deworming situations, type of diet, and mode of feeding affected Toxoplasma gondii infection in dogs and cats.Fifty were randomly selected for return, and the return revealed that all Petters had become aware of Toxoplasmosis, most of the Petters had corrected wrong husbandry practices, and no pet abandonment occurred.Through this trial, the infection of T.gondii in pet dogs and cats in Urumqi City,Xinjiang, was mastered,so as to provide basic data for prevention and control of T.gondii in Urumqi City,Xinjiang,China.Age,season, type of diet, and mode of husbandry were found to affect Toxoplasma gondii infection in pet dogs and cats, and the promotion of Toxoplasmosis hazards and prevention among pet owners has greatly reduced the risk of Toxoplasmosis transmission between pets and pets,as well as between pet and people.
