As an environmental factor, music can produce a series of physiological and biochemical reactions to animals in the form of sound waves. In order to understand the influence of different music on Spodoptera frugiperda, different types and different decibel sizes were combined into four different music, namely high decibel heavy music(100 d B),high decibel light music(100 d B),low decibel heavy music(80 d B)and low decibel light music(80 d B).600 larvae just molting to the 3rd instar were selected and divided into five groups with 120 larvae in each group, four groups were used as the music experimental group to play the corresponding music for 60 minutes at a fixed time every day,and the other group was used as the control group without playing music. The daily weight and food intake of Spodoptera frugiperda larvae for three consecutive generations under the influence of different music were weighed, the nutritional indexes of different instars were calculated, and the development duration and adult fecundity were recorded. Finally, the activities of digestive enzymes, trehalase, protective enzymes and acetylcholinesterase in the 5th instar larvae of the third generation under different music treatments were measured to verify the effects of different music on Spodoptera frugiperda from the perspective of mechanism. The main results of this study are as follows:1.Under different music treatments, the daily weight and food intake of three generations of Spodoptera frugiperda were continuously weighed. It was found that the daily weight of larvae under high decibel heavy music and high decibel light music increased rapidly from the 5th to the 8th day,the total food intake of larvae increased, and the nutritional indexes of 4th and 5th instar were significantly higher than those in the control group. The daily body weight, total food intake and nutritional indexes of larvae treated with low decibel heavy music and low decibel light music were not significantly different from those of the control group, but lower than those under two high decibel music treatments.2.It was found that different music had significant effects on the development duration and fecundity of Spodoptera frugiperda.Under the treatment of high decibel heavy music and high decibel light music, the larval development duration of Spodoptera frugiperda for three generations was significantly shortened, the pupa weight increased, the adult longevity and the average egg number per female were significantly lower than those of the control group. The four kinds of music treatments lengthened the development duration of pupa in different degrees.3.The digestive enzyme activities of Spodoptera frugiperda treated with music were different. The pepsin and α-amylase activities in the larvae of the four kinds of music treatments were lower than those in the control group, and the high decibel light music and low decibel heavy music had significant differences with the control group. The lipase activity of the larva midgut of the two light music treatments was higher than that of the control group, while the lipase activity of the two heavy music treatments was lower than that of the control group, and there was significant difference between the high decibel light music and low decibel heavy music treatments with the control group. The trehalase activities in the midgut of larvae treated with two high decibel music were lower than those in the control group, but the difference was not obvious. The trehalase activity of low decibel heavy music treatment was significantly higher than that of the control group, and there was little change between low decibel light music treatment with the control group.4.The results showed that music treatment could significantly affect the activities of protective enzymes and acetylcholinesterase in Spodoptera frugiperda larvae. The activities of acetylcholinesterase and catalase in larvae treated with high decibel heavy music and high decibel light music decreased, while the activities of superoxide dismutase and peroxidase increased. The activities of acetylcholinesterase and catalase in larvae treated with low decibel heavy music and low decibel light music were not significantly different from those with the control group, while the activity of superoxide dismutase was slightly decreased and the activity of peroxidase was significantly increased. It can be seen from the above results that high decibel heavy music and high decibel light music,as adverse environmental factors, can accelerate the growth and development of Spodoptera frugiperda larvae, especially the 4th and 5th instar, and reduce the adult longevity and fecundity. The results of enzyme activity in the larvae showed that two high decibel music acted on the nervous system of Spodoptera frugiperda larvae.Under this condition, the activities of trehalase and acetylcholinesterase in the larvae were inhibited, the insects were over excited, the utilization efficiency of trehalose slowed down, the activities of superoxide dismutase and peroxidase increased, and the activity of catalase decreased,so as to cope with this adverse environmental factor.
