Research Objective:This research investigated the current situation of childhood overweight obesity comorbidities(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder,ADHD)and analyzed the correlation between childhood overweight obesity and ADHD,and explored risk factors for childhood overweight obesity comorbidities of ADHD.Methods:According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of objects in this research,130 overweight and obese children were chosen as the overweight and obese group and 130 healthy weight children were chosen as the comparison group. In this research, the severity of psycho-behavioral problems of subjects was assessed by the Conners Parental Questionnaire. In this research SNAP-IV was used to assess the symptoms of ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder symptoms and ADHD typology(attention deficit,hyperactivity/impulsivity,and mixed). This research analyzed the prevalence of ADHD in the overweight and obese group and the control group by clinical manifestations and scale scores, analyzed whether there were differences between the two groups in psychological behavior problems, attention deficit symptoms,hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms and oppositional defiant disorder symptoms in children with ADHD,analyzed whether there was a correlation between weight and ADHD symptom scores in children with ADHD using Pearson correlation coefficients, and collected data by completing individual factors and family environmental factors of overweight and obese children were collected by means of questionnaires to analyzed risk factors for ADHD comorbidities in overweight and obese children.Results:1.Comparison of gender composition and age between overweight obese group and control group.A total of 130 cases in the overweight obese group and 130 cases in the comparison group were included in this research, and the two groups had no differences in gender composition or age range(P > 0.05).2.Prevalence of ADHD in overweight and obese group and control group. In the overweight obese group,20 cases of ADHD were detected, with a comorbidity of 15.4%,,and 8 cases of ADHD occurred in children in the control group, with a prevalence of ADHD of 6.2%.The distribution of ADHD subtypes was different between the two groups, with differences(p < 0.05).3.Comparison of ADHD subtypes and symptom severity in overweight obese and control groups. The distribution of ADHD subtypes was not statistically different between overweight obese and control groups(P=0.324).The research analyzed whether psychological behavioral problems, core symptoms of ADHD and oppositional defiant symptoms in children with ADHD differed between the two groups according to PSQ scores and SNAP-IV scale scores. The results showed that the scores of learning problems,impulsivity/hyperactivity,anxiety and hyperactivity index were higher in children with ADHD in the overweight-obese group compared with the control group, and the differences were statistically significant.Children with overweight-obese co-morbid ADHD had higher scores on attention deficit scores,hyperactivity/impulsivity scores, and oppositional defiant disorder than children with ADHD in the control group.4.Correlation analysis of overweight obesity and ADHD symptoms. This research analyzed the correlation between BMI-P and ADHD symptom scores of children with ADHD,and the results showed that BMI-P of children with ADHD was positively correlated with attention deficit scores(P<0.05)and not with hyperactivity/impulsivity scores(P>0.05).5.Analysis of risk factors for comorbid ADHD in overweight and obese children. In this research,130 overweight obese children were divided into the comorbid group(20 cases)and the non-comorbid group(110 cases)by whether they were comorbid with ADHD or not,and individual factors and family environment factors were first analyzed univariate. The results showed that there were statistical differences between the co-occurring group and the non-co-occurring group in BMI-P and daily video screen time, and duration of overweight obesity disease(P<0.05).The results showed that the duration of overweight obesity for at least 3 years(OR=5.609,95% CI: 1.789-17.588)and the presence of at least 3 hours of video screen time per day(OR=6.451,95% CI: 1.593-26.113)are possible risk factors for overweight obese children by using multifactorial binary logistic regression analysis.Conclusions:1.Overweight obese children are more likely to suffer from ADHD than normal weight children.2.Children with overweight-obese co-morbid ADHD have more severe psychobehavioral problems, core ADHD symptoms, and oppositional defiant disorder symptoms than normal-weight children with ADHD.3.The BMI-P of children with ADHD is positively correlated with severity of ADHD symptoms in children.4.The duration of obesity for at least 3 years and the presence of at least 3 hours of video screen time per day may be risk factors for co-occurrence of ADHD in overweight obese children.
