As an important player in our politics, economy and culture, women’s well-being needs attention. At present, research results on basic medical insurance and social capital are relatively abundant, and research on residents’ happiness is gradually increasing, but research on women’s happiness is still relatively rare, and research focusing on the mechanism of the impact of basic medical insurance and social capital on women’s happiness only remains at a relatively superficial level, and most scholars only treat women as a control variable in demographic research. In this paper,we use the five-year data of CFPS(China Family Panel Studies)from 2012 to 2020 to study the effects of basic medical insurance and social capital on women’s happiness and the interaction effect of basic medical insurance and social capital on women’s happiness by constructing panel data and using xtologit model. The results of the study show that, first, the mechanism of the effect of basic health insurance on women’s well-being is mainly through different groups of women’s participation in basic health insurance, which affects women’s well-being in the paths of health service access, health service utilization, and financial accessibility of health services,i.e.by affecting the health status of women.Secondly, there is a correlation between the impact of whether or not to participate in basic health insurance on the well-being of the female group.Among them, participation in basic medical insurance has the greatest impact on the happiness of rural women, followed by a greater and positive impact on the happiness of ethnic minority women.Third, among those who participate in basic medical insurance, the happiness of older women aged 60 and above who participate in basic medical insurance is lower than the happiness of women under 60,and it is found that the combination of maternity insurance and basic employee pension currently has a smaller impact on women’s happiness.Fourth,in social capital, the higher the rate of social capital ownership, the higher the happiness of women.Fifth, women’s happiness is significantly affected by the interaction effect of structural social capital and basic medical insurance in social capital.Sixth, the happiness of women in rural areas is higher than that of urban women in terms of cognitive social capital,i.e."social trust",especially structural social capital has a significant effect on the happiness of women aged 60 and above. However, the positive effect of structural social capital on the happiness of ethnic minority women is not as strong as that on the happiness of Han Chinese women. In response to the research results, this paper makes the following recommendations:first, the state should continue to expand the coverage of basic medical insurance coverage, improve the basic medical insurance system, strengthen the basic medical insurance for women in ethnic minority areas and women aged 60 and above, and promote the implementation of the merger of maternity insurance and basic pension for employees to provide more social security for women;second, government departments need to pay attention to Second, government departments need to pay attention to the targeting and inclination of basic medical insurance to protect the basic rights and interests of women in ethnic minority and rural areas;third, explore the special protection needs of women, raise the awareness of social participation of women in ethnic minority and rural areas, encourage women to participate in more social organizations and social interactions, and thus enhance women’s sense of well-being.Fourthly,we pay attention to social forces and the role of basic medical insurance and social capital interaction in improving women’s happiness.
