| Objective To understand the status of self-plaque control in fixed orthodontic patients in Hefei.The risk factors affecting plaque control in fixed orthodontic patients were analyzed from the aspects of general demography,oral health knowledge,belief and practice,eating habits,oral health education,etc.To provide theoretical basis and guidance for clinical guidance of oral health care of patients with fixed orthodontics,and to take reasonable and effective oral health education and intervention measures.Methods A cross-sectional study was used to select 204 patients who were treated with common metal brackets in the orthodontic department from October 2021 to December2021 as the study subjects in strict accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria.All the subjects volunteered to participate in the study and signed the informed consent form.Relevant information on possible factors affecting plaque control was collected through a self-made questionnaire,including general demographic information,oral health knowledge,belief,behavior and eating habits.Use plaque display solution(ready-to-use type)to detect and record the first dental plaque,conduct personalized oral health education according to the staining,and recheck the plaque index one month later.All data(questionnaire results,twice plaque index)were imported into Epidata database and processed and analyzed by SPSS 22.0 software.The single factor analysis of plaque index was carried out by independent sample t-test and single factor analysis of variance,and then the high risk factors affecting plaque control of fixed orthodontic patients were further analyzed by general linear regression model.Results A total of 204 subjects(93 males and 111 females)were enrolled in this study.The average plaque index of the first examination of the subjects was(1.82 ± 0.83).After personalized oral health education for all the subjects,the average plaque index of the first month was(1.42 ± 0.69).The results of single-factor analysis showed that the plaque index was significantly correlated with age,sex,residence and time of correction,willingness to correct,mastery of oral health knowledge,brushing times,brushing time,selection of brushing tools,and frequency of eating sweet drinks or sweets(P<0.05);The results of general linear regression analysis showed that the independent high risk factors affecting plaque control of fixed orthodontic patients included correction time,brushing times,brushing time,and the frequency of eating sweet drinks or sweets.Conclusion The overall plaque control level of fixed orthodontic patients in Hefei area is general,and the plaque is most likely to accumulate in the maxillary lateral incisors and maxillary canines.Young people’s poor health compliance and high plaque index;Female patients are more concerned about their own image and have a better control level of plaque.Oral health education is helpful to improve patients’ health compliance and oral health status.During the treatment,orthodontic patients should use the special orthodontic toothbrush,correctly master the modified bass toothbrush method,brush their teeth at least three times a day,and the duration of each brushing is not less than three minutes.At the same time,reducing the intake frequency of sweet drinks and sweets can effectively reduce the accumulation of dental plaque and maintain good oral health. |
