Background and purposeThe production environment of petrochemical enterprises is relatively harsh, the labor intensity is larger, the production process is complex, and there are more occupational harmful factors in the production process, resulting in excessive work load and work pressure of workers, which is easy to lead to the occurrence of occupational tension.Long-term occupational stress will increase the risk of job burnout. Some studies have shown that petrochemical workers are more prone to occupational stress and burnout than employees in other industries, but there is still no research on occupational stress and burnout of petrochemical workers in Hainan, and no research has used two or more questionnaires to investigate occupational stress of petrochemical workers. Therefore, this study will combine two kinds of occupational stress questionnaires based on different models and the most commonly used occupational burnout questionnaire to investigate the current situation of occupational stress and burnout of Hainan petrochemical workers, explore the correlation between occupational stress and burnout, analyze the influencing factors of occupational stress and burnout, and explore the role of occupational harmful factors on occupational stress and burnout. To provide theoretical basis for promoting the physical and mental health of Hainan petrochemical workers.MethodFrom June to July 2022,all front-line workers in a large petrochemical enterprise in Hainan Province were selected by random cluster sampling method. The Basic Situation questionnaire compiled by our research group and the Chinese version of job content questionnaire based on job demand-control model(JDC)were adopted.JCQ,the Chinese version of the effort-reward imbalance questionnaire based on the effort-reward imbalance model(ERI),ERIQ and the Chinese version of maslach burnout inventory general survey(MBIGS)investigated the basic situation, occupational stress and occupational burnout of petrochemical workers in Hainan.Chi-square test or Kruskal-Wallis test were used to investigate the differences in the detection rates of occupational stress and burnout among different individual characteristics.Pearson correlation was used to explore the relationship between occupational stress and job burnout and its three dimensions. The influencing factors of job stress and job burnout were analyzed by binary Logistic regression.A structural equation model was established to explore the relationship between occupational hazard factors and occupational stress and burnout in Hainan petrochemical workers.Result1.A total of 1112 front-line workers of large petrochemical enterprises in Hainan Province were investigated in this study, including 949 males and 163 females;Age:28(24-36)years old;The service life is 4(2~13)years.2.The detection rate of JDC mode occupational stress among petrochemical workers in Hainan was 51.2%,and the detection rate of JDC mode occupational stress was higher among male, minority Han,bachelor degree or above, married,no children, working years <10 years, often working overtime, severe and moderate manual labor intensity, exposure to noise or high temperature petrochemical workers(all P<0.05).Minority Han(OR=2.475,95%CI=1.338~4.578),frequent overtime work(OR=1.523,95%CI=1.170~1.982),heavy physical labor intensity(OR=1.766,95%CI=1.263~2.471),exposure to high temperature(OR=1.377,95%CI=1.003~1.890)were risk factors of occupational stress in JDC mode(all P<0.05).The detection rate of ERI mode occupational stress among petrochemical workers in Hainan is 42.8%.Among them, the ERI mode occupational stress detection rate of 35-58 and 25-34 years old age group, bachelor’s degree or above, monthly income ≥9000 yuan and 5000-8999 yuan, frequent overtime work,no shift work, severe and moderate manual labor intensity, exposure to dust, high temperature or hydrogen sulfide petrochemical workers was higher(all P<0.05).25-34 years old(OR=1.636,95%CI=1.195~2.239),35-58 years old(OR=2.299,95%CI=1.619~2.239),bachelor’s degree or above(OR=1.321,95%CI=1.009~1.729),frequent overtime work(OR=3.366,95%CI= 2.467-4.594),heavy physical labor intensity(OR=1.989,95%CI=1.386~2.857),exposure to high temperature(OR=1.450,95%CI=1.027~2.048)were risk factors for occupational stress in ERI model(all P<0.05).The detection rate of occupational stress in Hainan petrochemical workers under JDC mode was higher than that under ERI mode(P<0.05).3.The detection rate of occupational burnout among Hainan Petrochemical workers is 56.2%.The detection rate of occupational burnout among workers in JDC mode,ERI mode, bachelor’s degree or above, monthly income ≥ 9000 yuan and5000~8999 yuan, frequent overtime,no shift work, exposure to dust, noise, high temperature,or hydrogen sulfide petrochemical industry is relatively high(all P<0.05).Bachelor’s degree or above(OR=1.335,95%CI=1.031~1.728),frequent overtime(OR=1.908,95%CI=1.436~2.537),exposure to hydrogen sulfide(OR=1.296,95%CI=1.02~1.677),presence of JDC mode occupational stress(OR=3.148,95%CI=2.398~4.131),and ERI mode occupational stress(OR=1.539,95%CI=1.189~1.993)are all risk factors for occupational burnout(all P<0.05).Regular exercise(OR=0.736,95%CI=0.557~0.971)is a protective factor for occupational burnout(P<0.05).4.The detection rate of occupational stress in Hainan Petrochemical workers under JDC mode is higher than that under ERI mode(P<0.05).The emotional exhaustion dimension and personality disintegration dimension of petrochemical workers with JDC and ERI occupational stress patterns were higher than those of non occupational stress groups(all P<0.05).The personal achievement dimension of JDC and ERI occupational stress petrochemical workers was lower than that of the non occupational stress group(all P<0.05).Occupational stress in JDC and ERI models was positively correlated with job burnout, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization dimensions(all P<0.05).Occupational stress in both JDC and ERI models was negatively correlated with the dimension of personal achievement(all P<0.05).5.The direct effect size value of occupational harmful factors on occupational stress in ERI mode was 5.79(P<0.001);The direct effect size of ERI model occupational stress on job burnout was 0.71(P<0.001);The direct effect size of occupational harmful factors on job burnout was 1.24(P=0.370).The ERI model of occupational stress plays a complete mediating role between occupational harmful factors and occupational burnout.Conclusion1.The occupational stress level of petrochemical workers in Hainan Province is relatively high. The occupational stress in JDC mode is more prominent than that in ERI mode.Ethnicity, frequent overtime work, labor intensity and exposure to high temperature are all factors influencing occupational stress in JDC mode.Age,educational background, frequent overtime work, labor intensity and exposure to high temperature are the factors that influence occupational stress in ERI model.2.There is a certain level of occupational burnout among petrochemical workers in Hainan Province.Educational background, regular exercise, frequent overtime work, exposure to hydrogen sulfide,JDC mode occupational stress,ERI mode occupational stress are all factors affecting job burnout.3.With the increase of occupational stress, occupational burnout also increases, and ERI mode occupational stress plays a complete mediating role between occupational harmful factors and occupational burnout.
