OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Sang-reed Tang in the treatment of patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(sputum-heat congestion in the lungs),and to seek a safe and effective clinical treatment for AECOPD.METHODS: Seventy-two patients with AECOPD(phlegm-heat congestion evidence)who met the criteria were selected and randomly divided into 36 cases each in the control group and treatment group according to the random number table method. Both groups were treated with conventional Western medicine, while the treatment group was treated with the tutor’s clinical experience formula Sang Wei Tang on the basis of the control group. After the treatment, the patients’ lung function,6-minute walk measurement and infection indexes were observed before and after the treatment, and the efficacy was determined by statistical methods.RESULTS: A total of 72 patients were included in this study, and a total of 5 cases were excluded and detached, resulting in the inclusion of a total of 67 patients who met the criteria, including 34 cases in the treatment group and 33 cases in the control group. The specific findings of the study were as follows.1.General: Statistical analysis of the gender, age and duration of illness of the two groups of patients before treatment showed no statistically significant differences and were comparable(P > 0.05).2.TCM symptoms: The clinical efficiency of the treatment group was 91.18%,while that of the control group was 84.85%.P=0.026<0.05 when comparing the efficiency of the two groups, the clinical treatment efficiency of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group.3.The total TCM syndrome score,:The total primary syndrome score(cough, coughing and wheezing)and the total secondary syndrome score(irritability, yellow and sticky sputum, chest tightness, sweating, thirst, abdominal distension, poor appetite and dry stools)improved to different degrees in both groups after treatment(P < 0.05),and the treatment group improved more than the control group(P < 0.05).4.Functional indicators(1)Pulmonary function: Pulmonary function FEV1/FVC and FEV1% improved in both groups after treatment compared to pre-treatment(P < 0.05),and the treatment group improved better than the control group(P < 0.05).(2)6MWT: The 6MWT improved in both groups after treatment compared to the pre-treatment period(P<0.05),and the treatment group improved better than the control group(P<0.05).5.Infection indexes: Infection indicators(WBC,CRP,NLR)improved in both the treatment and control groups after treatment compared to pre-treatment(P < 0.05),and the treatment group improved better than the control group(P < 0.05).6.No adverse reactions were observed in either group during the clinically observed study period.CONCLUSION: Sang-reed Tang is an effective formula for the treatment of AECOPD(evidence of phlegm-heat congestion in the lung). It can effectively relieve patients’ clinical symptoms such as cough, sputum and shortness of breath, increase the walking distance in the 6-minute walk test, improve lung function and decrease infection indicators, providing a safe and effective formula for the clinical treatment of AECOPD.
