Objective: To investigate the prevalence and various clinical characteristics of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia, analyze their risk factors, enhance the risk awareness of specialized physicians in identifying metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia, regularly monitor patients’ BMI,waist circumference, blood sugar, blood lipids, blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin, and other indicators, evaluate whether there is a risk of disease, and provide relevant clinical treatment to improve the patient’s disease prognosis, reduce personal Family and social pressure. Methods:We selected 311 schizophrenics hospitalized in Wuhu Fourth People’s Hospital from March to December 2022,and collected their general and clinical data, including age, gender, course of disease, family history, height, weight,BMI,waist circumference, marriage and childbearing history, unhealthy lifestyle, smoking history, drinking history, psychiatric symptoms, diabetes history, hypertension history The use of antipsychotic drugs,etc.SPSS26.0 software was used to statistically analyze the collected data, evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia, and analyze risk factors.Results:(1)A total of 311 patients with schizophrenia were enrolled in this study, with a prevalence rate of 29.9% for metabolic syndrome, the highest proportion being the borderline population(48.6%),and 21.5% being high-risk population;According to the classification of antipsychotic drugs, the incidence of metabolic syndrome in the olanzapine group is the highest(41.82%),followed by clozapine and quetiapine, with slightly lower rates of risperidone, and relatively lower rates of MS in other antipsychotic drugs such as aripiprazole.(2)The proportions of each metabolic component in schizophrenia patients with metabolic syndrome were 82.80% with high TG,78.49% with low HDL-C,76.34% with abdominal obesity,61.29% with abnormal glucose tolerance,32.26% with diabetes, and 26.88% with abnormal blood pressure.Patients with two negative symptoms or more than three positive symptoms had the highest prevalence of metabolic syndrome.(3)There were statistically significant differences in waist circumference,BMI,systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure,TG,TC,HDL-C,LDL-C,fasting blood glucose, smoking history, and binge eating between the MS and non MS groups(P<0.05);Increased waist circumference, smoking history, diabetes, hypertension, elevated TG,decreased HDL-C and overeating are risk factors for schizophrenia patients with metabolic syndrome(P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in schizophrenic patients is high.Smoking history, overeating, increased waist circumference, diabetes, hypertension, high triglycerides, and low HDL-C are all risk factors for schizophrenia patients with metabolic syndrome.(2)In the risk stratification of schizophrenia patients, the proportion of critical population is the highest, and the risk of turning into metabolic syndrome is high.Risk stratification of patients can better prevent the occurrence of disease, and strengthen the intervention of their lifestyle and the evaluation of metabolic indicators, which can help clinicians develop better treatment plans.(3)The assessment of the current situation of schizophrenia patients can improve the diagnosis and treatment awareness of psychiatrists, prevent the occurrence of metabolic syndrome and carry out early intervention to reduce the prevalence rate.
