Background At present, dry eye has become a global epidemic, its global prevalence is increasing year by year, and the trend of younger people is increasingly obvious.Dry eye is one of the most common ocular surface diseases. However, there are few studies on dry eye in children and adolescents.Due to the lack of understanding of dry eye in children and adolescents in clinical practice,it is not enough to pay attention to it,and the probability of delayed diagnosis and treatment is high.Eventually, keratoconjunctivitis and other ocular surface health will be damaged, and in severe cases, visual health will be affected. Objective To investigate the prevalence of dry eye in children and adolescents in Wujiagang District of Yichang City,to explore the related influencing factors of dry eye,in order to provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of dry eye in children and adolescents, and to take corresponding measures to further prevent and control the occurrence and progression of dry eye in children and adolescents.Methods(1)Using cluster random sampling, sampling 6 schools(2 primary schools,2junior high schools and 2 senior high schools)in Wujiagang District of Yichang City from February 2021 to February 2023 was conducted by taking the primary school group of 10 to12 years old, junior high school group of 13 to 15 years old,and senior high school group of16 to 18 years old.A total of 1705 people were selected.(2)Students completed objective ocular examination, ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scale and dry eye influencing factors questionnaire, using SPSS25.0 statistical software,Chi-square test and Logistic regression analysis were used to investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of dry eye among students aged 10-18 years in Wujiagang District of Yichang City.Results(1)A total of 1569 subjects accepted the objective eye examination and the investigation of influencing factors, and the overall response rate was 92.0%.In the overall survey population,438 people were diagnosed as dry eye,the prevalence rate was 27.92%,of which 245 people were mild dry eye,the prevalence rate was 15.62%,92 people were moderate dry eye,the prevalence rate was 5.86%,101 people were severe dry eye,the prevalence rate was 6.44%.Dry eye is more common in myopic people than in non-myopic people.(2)Statistical analysis showed that the risk factors of dry eye were higher grade, longer screen use time, frequent use of eye drops, increased active or passive smoking, frequent partial and picky eating, increased learning pressure, while increased outdoor time, maintaining correct reading and writing posture, and liking to eat fruits and vegetables were protective factors for dry eye.The influencing factors were fruits and vegetables(OR =2.456),learning pressure(OR =2.420),picky eating(OR =2.404),smoking(OR =2.236),reading and writing posture(OR =1.998),eye drops(OR =1.908),outdoor time(OR =1.752),screen time(OR =1.523),and grade(OR =1.402).Conclusion(1)All sectors of society should pay attention to it.The prevalence of dry eye in students aged 10-18 years old in Wujiagang District of Yichang City is high,up to27.92%.(2)In order to reduce the incidence of dry eye and slow down the progress of dry eye, education departments should strengthen the publicity of dry eye prevention and control knowledge, and urge children and adolescents to eat more vegetables and fruits without picky food, reduce learning pressure, and reduce active and passive smoking.
