| Purpose(1)To understand the status quo of medical students’ mindfulness level, ruminant thinking, sleep quality and academic burnout, and to investigate their differences in general demographic variables such as gender, whether they are only children, whether they are class cadres and students’ places of origin.(2)Explore the relationship among medical students’ mindfulness level, ruminant thinking, sleep quality and academic burnout.(3)Construct effective intervention methods to improve the level of medical students’ mindfulness and reduce their academic burnout.Method(1)Through literature analysis, systematically analyze a large number of domestic and foreign medical students’ related literature on mindfulness level, ruminant thinking, sleep quality and academic burnout, and understand the development status.(2)A questionnaire survey was conducted among 907 medical students from two medical colleges in a province,to find out the current situation and influencing factors of related variables, and to construct the influencing paths among variables.(3)Through the mindfulness intervention program based on MAT theory, medical students were intervened, and the intervention effect was tested. The questionnaire data were sorted and analyzed by SPSS.Result(1)The total score of medical students in the level of mindfulness is(111.03±15.94),and the scores from big to small are: description, observation, conscious action,no judgment and no action, with scores of(24.20±4.04),(22.63±2.85),(22.54±4.50),(22.42±4.30)AND(19.24±5.18)respectively.The total score of medical students’ rumination thinking is(42.97±11.58),and the scores in the dimension from big to small are symptom rumination(22.63±6.37),forced meditation(10.72±3.37)and introspection(9.96±2.94).The total score of medical students’ sleep quality is(7.42±3.17),and the dimension scores are: falling asleep time, subjective sleep quality, daytime dysfunction, sleep time, sleep disorder, sleep efficiency and hypnotic drugs, with the scores of(1.62±1.01),(1.37±0.69),(1.33±0.88),(1.27±0.75),(1.11±0.51),(0.61±0.87)and(0.14±0.87)respectively.The total score of medical students’ academic burnout is(54.26±10.22),and the dimension scores are: depressed mood, improper behavior and low sense of accomplishment, with scores of(21.12±5.32),(16.94±3.65)and(16.02±3.10)respectively.(2)At the level of mindfulness, women’s description scores were significantly higher than men’s(p<0.01),and there were no significant gender differences in other dimensions and total scores. In ruminant thinking, the score of forced meditation of women is significantly higher than that of men(p<0.05),and there is no significant gender difference in other dimensions and total score. In terms of sleep quality, the scores of falling asleep time of women are significantly higher than those of men(p<0.01),and the scores of drug hypnosis of men are significantly higher than those of women(p<0.05).There is no significant gender difference in other dimensions and total scores. In terms of academic burnout, the total score of female academic burnout and the score of low sense of achievement are significantly higher than that of male(p<0.01,p<0.01),and there is no significant gender difference in other dimensions.(3)On the level of mindfulness, student cadres scored higher in conscious action than non-student cadres(p<0.05).On academic burnout, the scores of depression of non-student cadres were significantly higher than those of student cadres(p<0.01).In other variables and dimensions, there is no significant difference whether or not to be a student cadre.(4)In rumination, the score of forced meditation of non-only children was significantly higher than that of only children(p<0.05).In the other variables and dimensions, there is no significant difference whether it is an only child.(5)In terms of sleep quality, the scores of sleep disorders of urban medical students are lower than those of rural medical students(p<0.05),and there are no significant differences in other variables and dimensions among medical students from different places of origin.(6)Correlation analysis shows that there are pairwise correlations among medical students’ mindfulness level, ruminant thinking, sleep quality and academic burnout(all p < 0.01).(7)Mindfulness significantly negatively predicted academic burnout, ruminant thinking and sleep quality scores(all p < 0.001);The scores of ruminant thinking and sleep quality significantly positively predicted academic burnout(both p < 0.001).(8)The analysis of individual mediating effect shows that ruminant thinking has a partial mediating effect between mindfulness level and academic burnout, and the mediating effect is-0.292,accounting for 54.28% of the total effect;Sleep quality has a partial mediating effect between mindfulness level and academic burnout, and the mediating effect is-0.161,accounting for 29.93% of the total effect. The analysis of chain mediation effect shows that ruminationand sleep quality have a chain mediation effect between mindfulness level and academic burnout. The mediating effect is-0.019,accounting for 3.53% of the total effect.(9)Before and after the intervention, there were significant differences in the level of mindfulness and the total score and dimensions of academic burnout among medical students in the intervention group(p < 0.001).Conclusions(1)The level of medical students’ mindfulness is in the middle level, slightly lower than that of ordinary college students.Women’s mindfulness description score is significantly higher than that of men.Students who are student cadres have significantly higher scores in conscious action than students who are not student cadres.(2)The rumination of medical students belongs to low-level ruminant thinking, which is close to the median level of the scale.Women are more likely to fall into forced meditation than men.(3)The quality of medical students’ sleep is ok,slightly worse than that of ordinary college students.Women sleep longer than boys.Men are more inclined to use hypnotics than women when they have sleep problems.(4)The academic burnout of medical students is in the middle level. The total score of female academic burnout is significantly higher than that of male.Women are more likely than men to have a low sense of academic achievement.Compared with non-student cadres, student cadres are less likely to feel depressed in their studies.(5)Rumination plays a partial mediating role between medical students’ mindfulness level and academic burnout.(6)Sleep quality plays a partial mediating role between medical students’ mindfulness level and academic burnout.(7)Rumination and sleep quality play a chain intermediary role between medical students’ mindfulness level and academic burnout.(8)The mindfulness intervention scheme based on MAT theory designed in this study can improve medical students’ mindfulness level, reduce their academic burnout level and promote their academic performance. |
