In 2021,the Seventh National Census Bulletin was released, and the data showed that the total fertility rate of women of childbearing age in China was 1.3,which indicated that China was already at a low fertility level.Behind the problem of low fertility rate in China lies the ethical problem of fertility in our society, and the media plays an important role in guiding the concept of fertility. With the help of ethical narrative theory, this paper deeply analyzes the narrative theme, narrative strategy and limitations of the fertility documentary Wonderful Egg-laying by means of text analysis and case analysis,in order to provide theoretical support and practical reference for the creation of fertility documentary. On the ethical narrative theme,The Wonderful Egg-laying explores the fertility problems faced by Chinese women from three aspects: women, family and society, hoping to awaken women’s subjective consciousness and give women understanding and support from family and society. In terms of narrative method, the documentary adopts the dual perspectives of internal focus and zero focus to show the reproductive dilemma faced by women in my country, uses participatory recording to abandon the identity of others, approaches the distance from the subject, and uses questions to further explore the essence of the problem. The creator adopts an intermediate ethical narrative mode as a whole, deconstructs traditional fertility ethics by telling the fertility oppression suffered by traditional women, and tells the fertility stories of modern independent women to try to construct a modern concept of fertility freedom. In terms of the influencing factors of ethical narrative,on the one hand, creators speak out for women based on a feminist standpoint, and focus on guiding audiences to participate in enhancing the effect of program dissemination;on the other hand, under the influence of social public opinion, they avoided the topic of policy disputes and fell back to the mainstream public opinion and morality in ethical expression. This paper finds that there are three main problems in the ethical narrative of "Wonderful Eggs" : First, the discussion of fertility issues is superficial, revealing that contradictions should be avoided and deep-seated problems will be avoided;second, the image of female characters is flattened, and the creators tend to present women. The pressure to bear children has shaped women as victims of childbirth;third, the concept of childbearing freedom is one-sided,and the documentary emphasizes the freedom of not giving birth and neglects the freedom of giving birth. In view of the problems existing in the ethical narrative of The Wonderful Egg-laying,this paper puts forward three suggestions for the follow-up creation of the birth documentary: First, deepen the cultivation and increase the depth and breadth of the content;Second, creators should transcend gender stance and discuss fertility issues from the perspective of both genders;Third, the expression of reproductive values should be diversified and differentiated based on different women’s situations.
