Bhutan Contemporary Issues & Perspectives is a collection of papers written by Indian scholars on such aspects of Bhutan as politics, economy, education and health,so its translation can help Chinese readers know more about Bhutan from the perspective of India. The report is based on the translation of Chapter Three to Five from this book. The guideline of the translation is Text Analysis Model initiated by Christiane Nord, who holds that translation is a process for translators to analyze the source text to understand its function and characteristics, and then to choose appropriate translation strategies and methods to realize the expected functions of the target text.Nord then proposes documentary and instrumental translation strategies to address different texts. The translator analyzes the source text from intratextual and extratextual perspectives and identifies the original as informative text with referential function.Accordingly, documentary and instrumental strategies are employed to tackle the linguistic difficulties, including fixed translation, transliteration, transliteration plus annotation, and liberal translation for proper nouns, and syntactic linearity, inversion, and division for long and complex sentences.Meanwhile, instrumental strategy is adopted to deal with politically sensitive issues. To respect the objective facts, literal translation plus notes is applied. This report makes a research on the translation of informative texts and summarizes corresponding solutions, and is hoped to provide reference and inspiration for those translating similar texts.
