In the process of high school English teaching,the quantity of high school students’ English reading is less,and the teaching goal is difficult to achieve.The English Curriculum Standard for Ordinary High School(2017 edition,2020 new version)emphasizes the students’ core literacy training,including mental aspects of the characteristics of thinking quality which is a core subject literacy.The thinking quality has very important significance to students’ reading comprehension,as well as other literacy training.Exam-oriented education plays a major role in actual classroom teaching,teachers mainly teach knowledge of material in class,which limits the development of students’ thinking ability.The high school stage is the key stage to develop students’ thinking ability and cultivate their thinking skills.Students’ English core literacy will be greatly enhanced if the thinking characteristics of the high school stage can be used to cultivate students’ thinking quality.The participants of this study are the students of Class 11,grade 2 in a senior high school in Anshan city.This research will adopt action research method,analyze the current situation of students’ thinking ability and the materials of "College Entrance Examination English Reading and Simulation Intensive Training",researcher can discuss how to improve students’ thinking quality,and closely combine the selected teaching auxiliary materials in the research process.There are three research questions :(1)In high school English reading class,what problems exist in the cultivation of students’ thinking quality and what are the reasons?(2)How to cultivate and improve the thinking quality of high school students by reading English magazines?(3)What are the effects and challenges of Foreign Periodical Reading on the improvement of the thinking quality of high school students?Through two rounds of action research,it is found that the English teaching based on the Foreign Periodical Reading has a certain effect on improving students’ thinking quality,and can improve students’ overall thinking ability in the training process.Through research,author believes that if teachers can pay attention to the design of reading texts and the cultivation of thinking ability,it will be beneficial to improve the overall quality of thinking of students.
