| The Transcript of the Press Conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council on 4th August,2021 is selected as the source text in this translation program. Its background is mid-July,2021,when China was hit by a wide-spreading wave of the Covid-19 pandemic caused by Delta. In light of this, the Press Conference was held in time, with the theme of further epidemic prevention and control. It aimed to introduce China’s prevention and control measures. The source text features two distinctive characteristics. One is that it highlights specific epidemic prevention and control measures of different situations;the other is that it involves many novel expressions, including metaphor, parallelism and repetition. How to present the characteristics in the target text is the main challenge in the translation process. Therefore, this translation program aims to solve two problems. The first one is how to highlight prevention and control measures;the second one is how to reproduce various novel expressions to increase readability. The author selected foregrounding theory as the solution. In general, foregrounding means motivated deviation from conventional use of language and over-regularity.It is classified into two categories: qualitative foregrounding and quantitative foregrounding.Qualitative foregrounding comprises semantic deviation and syntactic deviation while quantitative foregrounding comprises parallelism and repetition. In the process of translation, three methods, creative foregrounding, equivalent foregrounding and de-foregrounding,are adopted to highlight key points.Under the guidance of foregrounding, the two problems mentioned above are solved. That is,various prevention and control measures are highlighted and the aesthetic appeal is maintained. |
