Max Reger(March 19,2007--May 11,1957)was a German composer,organist and pianist.He was both the successor of Romanticism in the late 19 th century and a pioneer of modernism in the early 20 th century.In terms of his music,he matured under the dominance of 19 th century musical ideas,retained 18 th century aesthetic principles,and combined chromatic harmonic language with "traditional" forms to form his unique musical style.Reger is a representative figure of German lyric composer in the 19 th century.He created a large number of different types of music works in his life.In his many music creation fields(chamber music,organ,piano,vocal music,orchestral music),more than 300 Lieder throughout his music creation career.By combining harmony with counterpoint,he ingeniously created a unique musical motive for each poem.In terms of the application of harmonic techniques in Lieder,Reger’s harmonic language continued the tonal expansion thinking of German-Austrian system.Through the expansion of functional harmony and the combination of linear thinking and other writing methods,he challenged the dominance of the major and minor key system but never goes beyond the tonality,forming its own traditional and romantic personalized characteristics.This paper takes Max Reger’s Lieder Op.35 as the research object to study harmony techniques,which is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which expounds the reasons and significance of this topic and the research status at home and abroad.The second chapter is a brief overview of Reger’s life and a detailed narration of the creation background and poetry content of the Lieder Op.35.The third chapter explores the chord materials used in the Lieder Op.35,respectively discusses the natural tone system chord,variable tone system chord and chord external tone in the work,and makes a detailed analysis of the nature and usage of chords.The fourth chapter studies the lateral progression of chords and the technique of modal alternation from the perspective of tonal expansion.Through the analysis of harmonic techniques in Op.35,this paper explores the inheritance and breakthrough of traditional harmonic techniques in Reger’s Lieder.In the process of research,through the analysis of the creation background and harmonic techniques of Reger’s Lieder Op.35,a clearer understanding of Reger’s composing techniques has been formed,a deeper understanding of the creation techniques of late19 th century Romanticism has been gained,from which accumulate experience and improve research and analysis ability to provide practical experience for practical teaching and creation. |
