Since 2016,virtual reality technology has slowly entered the public eye.the integration and development of VR technology and documentaries has given rise to a new form of imaging, namely VR documentaries.Combining the immersive and interactive nature of VR technology and the objective and realistic reproduction of reality in documentaries,VR documentaries can bring a unique viewing experience to the audience, making the viewer feel as if he or she is in the real world.Such visual expression and the integration of real and virtual elements allow viewers to have a deeper understanding of the themes and content expressed in the documentary, and to experience and understand the world in a new way. While VR documentaries are developing rapidly, various problems have emerged in the creation of VR documentaries one after another. On the one hand, although the development of VR documentaries is very rapid, but its birth time is relatively short,so in the application of the lens language is still lack of a series of theoretical comb and guidance on the other hand, although VR documentaries and traditional documentaries have similarities in the lens language, but there are also large differences between them,so the traditional documentary lens language characteristics and application methods are not fully applicable to VR documentaries. If these problems are not solved in time,it will cause great obstacles to the development of VR documentaries and affect their future development,so in order to promote the development of VR documentaries, documentary theory researchers need to strengthen the research of audiovisual language theory and establish a theoretical system, and further improve the application methods and techniques of lens language in order to better meet the audience’s needs and expectations for VR documentaries.Starting from VR documentaries, this thesis explores the characteristics of the application of camera language in VR documentaries. The thesis first explains the research background and significance of the thesis as well as the current research status at home and abroad. The concepts and characteristics of the audiovisual language of traditional documentaries and VR technology as well as VR photography technology are sorted out.Through combing and summarizing, the different features presented by VR documentaries and traditional documentaries as well as the impact of VR technology on documentaries are discussed.Secondly, the thesis focuses on the characteristics of VR documentary picture modeling language, focusing on the application characteristics of the elements involved in modeling language such as field of view, composition, focal length, depth of field, angle, and point of view.Among them, the wide-angle lens of VR camera brings the expression of depth of field in VR documentary, and then affects the two stylistic factors of scene and composition. The framing and composition break the "tangible frame" and allow dynamic composition as a way of expression. This approach not only gives the viewer the ability to make their own choices, but also brings a more immersive and interactive experience. The thesis also explores the role of camera language such as fixed shots, motion shots and long shots in the pacing of VR documentaries and analyzes the different effects they produce on the films.Among them, the thesis analyzes four different types of motion shots: push, pull, pan, and shift, and discusses their different degrees of influence on the film’s rhythm.Long shots play an important role in VR documentaries as "point of view",enhancing the viewer’s immersion through the objective point of view of fixed long shots, while motion long shots enhance the viewer’s participation through their subjective point of view. Finally, from a narrative perspective, this thesis explores the characteristics and dual functions of montage three-dimensional narrative through an overview of the montage technique.
