Piazzolla was the representative of the new tango movement of the 20 th century,an Argentinian composer and bandoyo accordion player. He created a great number of works in his life, based on systematic classical compositions into jazz music, and elevated tango music from popular dance accompaniment to artistic indie performance. He elevated the status of tango music and made a great impact on the diversity of world music. The plasticity of traditional tango works is fully demonstrated by the combination of strong tango colors and classical styles in his later works."Colossus Tango" is one of Piazzolla’s late masterpieces of new tango and the only cello and piano duet of his career. We can feel Piazzolla’s musical charm in the performance, both in the structure of the work and in the expression of his thoughts. However, there is not much research on the great tango, not much literature, especially from the angle of artistic direction,so I think that the study of the great tango is of great significance to understand the composer’s creative characteristics and better grasp his playing skills and musical style.Through the collection of ancient and modern piazzolla literature, this paper takes piazzolla’s late cello and piano duo "grand tango" as an object of study, and analyzes its musical characteristics from the creative features, structure, performance analysis, and collaboration between the players, and combines the performance experience to explain and analyze the special techniques and musical performance of each vocal tango. The main body of the thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and life of piazzolla’s music, from the historical and cultural aspects of the work to position piazzolla’s life experience, then a brief discussion of his new tango music creation characteristics. The second chapter focuses on Piazzolla’s cello and piano duet "The Great Tango," which is analyzed in terms of the background, the composition and the characteristics of the composition. The third chapter starts with the analysis of the performance of "Tango" and introduces the technique of cello and piano,as well as the collaboration between piano and cello in this work.
