A Report On Translation Of Sci-Tech Texts From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

This thesis is a translation practice report,taking the fifth chapter of Digital Economy and New Business Opportunities of 5G as an example,and analyzing the guiding role of functional equivalence translation theory in scientific and technological translation.Digital Economy and New Business Opportunities of 5G mainly talks about the power of industrial Internet and the role of 5G in industrial Internet.The source text selected in this report is the fifth chapter of this book,which mainly involves the promotion of 5G technology to industrial Internet.Digital Economy and New Business Opportunities of 5G is a sci-tech text,and its language is clear,accurate,concise and rigorous.There are a lot of technical terms in the book,and there are many non-subject sentences and active sentences;The text is logical and coherent,and has the stylistic characteristics of expository writing.Guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the translator applies the theory of functional equivalence to the translation practice to guide the translation at four levels: vocabulary,syntax,text and style,so as to achieve the purpose of natural and smooth of the translation.This report makes an in-depth case study of the translator’s translation process,hoping to provide some experience for the translation of sci-tech texts.This report consists of six chapters.The first chapter includes the background,significance and structure of this report.The second chapter includes the linguistic features analysis of the source text.The third chapter describes translation processes from pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The fourth chapter expounds the content and applicability of functional equivalence translation theory.The fifth chapter is a case analysis,focusing on the guiding role of Nida’s functional equivalence theory in this translation report,from four levels: lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence.The sixth chapter is a summary of the translation report,including the gains,limitations and suggestions in translation.
