Since the end of the cold war,culture has become one of the most significant factors in international relations,and more and more countries have elevated cultural diplomacy to a strategic level,making it the most active form of diplomacy.And it is worth learning from Britain’s successful experience in enhancing national soft power through cultural diplomacy.As a result,the author selects the first three chapters of the report Cultural Diplomacy released by the British think tank Demos for translation.Based on translation practice,this translation practice report has been developed under the guidance of Professor Li Changshuan’s “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA)” Framework.In the translation practice report,the author mainly describes the difficulties encountered during the translation process,as well as their respective solutions in terms of three aspects:comprehension,expression,and adaptation,in combination with specific cases.In the analysis of comprehension cases,examples are provided to illustrate the importance of comprehension during the translation process by describing how to understand the original text from the lexical,syntactic,and textual levels in different ways;in the analysis of expression cases,examples of logical relations,lexical gaps and rhetorical devices are used to demonstrate how to improve translation smoothness and clarity through literal translation,free translation,amplification,and other translation techniques;in the analysis of adaptation cases,instances are used to describe how to achieve the desired results by adopting the methods of conversion,amplification and inversion based on different expression habits of Chinese and English.This report is an introduction to and summary of the English-Chinese translation practice.In this translation report,the author analyzes the text characteristics of reports about British cultural diplomacy,summarizes the translation skills and methods that can be applied to reports,one type of informative texts and illustrates how to write translation practice report under the guidance of CEA Framework.Hopefully,this report can raise translators’ awareness of the importance of comprehension,as well as provide them with more information about the skills of expression and adaptation.Furthermore,it is also expected to provide references for other translators who are translating reports.
