The Research Of Chao Buzhi’s Epitaphs And Biographies

Chao Buzhi(1053-1110),who was also called Wujiu and Guilaizi,was a famous litterateur in the Northern Song Dynasty.He was born in Jizhou Juye(now Juye County,Heze Municipality,Shandong Province).This paper chooses chao Buzhi’s biographies as the research objects,which are less concerned by the academic circle.On the basis of collecting and arranging Chao Buzhi’s character biographies,this paper analyzes and summarizes the style and the type of Chao Buzhi’s epitaphs and biographies.This thesis consists of the following five parts:The introduction part defines the concept of "epitaphs and biographies" involved in the paper,explains the research object of the paper,summarizes the academic research on Chao Buzhi’s family and literature creation,and sorts out the viewpoints of various scholars.At the same time,it explains the reason for selecting this topic,and includes the research significance of this paper and the research methods used in this paper.The first chapter is a brief introduction of Chao Buzhi’s epitaphs and biographies.With the reference of 40 volumes of The Collection of Four Series of Periodicals,70 volumes of the Collection of Chi Zaotang Siku Complete Works and 39 volumes of the Whole Song Wen,it systematically analyzes the main hero in ji Lei Ji,written by Chao Buzhi.By investigating the social relationship between chao Buzhi and the patron,the epitaphs and biographies are divided into four categories: relatives and friends,sages and ministers,social engagement and worship of gods.The second chapter is about the sentiment of Chao Buzhi’epitaphs and biographies.Chao Buzhi’s biographies are divided into four types and have various contents.Biographies about relatives and friends focus on expressing sorrow;the sages and ministers on praising the heroes’ merits;social engagement on praising the main character and consoling the family members and the female category on praising the virtuous conduct of women.Chao Buzhi has different emphases for different types of epitaphs and biographies.Chapter three is the historical value of Chao Buzhi’s writings.As a kind of biography,they record the basic information of the masters’ lives and their family background.Chao Buzhi’s family and marriage,as well as the development of Chao’s family,are explored by analyzing the biographies of relatives and friends in Chao Buzhi’s biographies.At the same time,combined with other historical materials and through the analysis of the biographies aboutthe famous officials and social engagement,this paper combines out the relevant life and family information about the heroes that can correct the faults of history.The fourth chapter reveals the style and characteristics of Chao Buzhi’s biographies by comparing with Han Yu’s biographies.In terms of stylistic examples of stele biographies,the original stele biographies are basically the same,while the variant stele biographies have some differences.In the style of tablet biography,they are quite different and have obvious personality characteristics.In narrative and lyrical aspects,Han Yu’s expression of injustice has made the biography more magnificent and heroic.Chao Buzhi’s narration in the biography is relatively soft and gentle.In terms of materials,Han Yu is good at selecting typical events or typical characteristics to portray characters,and his selection of materials is rather strange.Chao Buzhi,on the other hand,pays more attention to inheriting the main character and selecting talents.
