| Based on “the 8th China and Globalization Forum——China-US Think Tank Dialogue”,the author conducted a simulated consecutive interpreting task and described in detail the whole interpreting procedures in this report.According to Li Changshuan’s UMEER Framework, this report analyzed the problems that occurred in interpreting from four aspects of understanding, memory, expression, and emergency response.UMEER Framework is an analysis framework of interpreting practice proposed by Li.In his book Meaning and Expression: Annotated Texts in English/Chinese interpreting, understanding is based on interpreters’ competence in comprehending the source language, subject knowledge and background information. To memorize the source language, the logic of speeches should be found first. With the help of systematic note-taking,short memory can be achieved.Expression highlights the conveying of speakers’ ideas rather than words and is not constrained by the structure or word order of the source language.Li(2013)also emphasizes two approaches to handling crises, namely crisis prevention and crisis management.Based on this task, the author concluded that interpreters should prepare well before interpreting, memorize speeches by logic and systematic notes, convey speakers’ sense rather than words and cultivate good psychological quality to deal with different emergencies as a way to make a success in interpreting.Through this simulated consecutive interpreting task, the author realized her shortcomings and the way forward. She has improved her interpreting skills which are beneficial to interpreting quality in the future and it is hoped that the report could be helpful for other interpreters in their interpreting practice. |
