A Case Study On E-C Translation Of Perspectives On Digital Humanism (Excerpts) Based On Steiner’s Fourfold Translation Motion

With the rapid advancement of science and technology,artificial intelligence has flourished and started to exert a potential influence on various aspects of human life.This trend has also attracted considerable attention from diverse fields around the globe.Perspectives on Digital Humanism is a recent contribution to the global discourse on digital humanism,exploring human-machine relationships and their impacts on society.It mainly discusses the relationship between computer science and society as well as the co-evolution of information technology and human beings,which provides a new vision for the research of the digital humanities.This report is based on the analysis of the E-C translation practice in the third and fourth chapters of Perspectives on Digital Humanism,which carries realistic significance for further exploration into digital humanism.Perspectives on Digital Humanism covers a wide range of subjects and exhibits scientific qualities.Its main purpose is to provide new scientific and technological content.Translating works of this genre requires accuracy and objectivity,as well as logicality and precision based on the thorough understanding of the source text.Steiner’s hermeneutic theory has had a significant impact on translation theorists worldwide.His fourfold translation motion,consisting of trust,aggression,incorporation,and compensation,argues that translation is a process of understanding the text.This report employs this theory as its theoretical framework.With the foundational trust in the original text,a case analysis was conducted from three perspectives: aggression,incorporation,and compensation.By breaking the language shell and absorbing the meaning and form of the original text,the translator deeply delved into the underlying meaning of the original text and reproduced it as accurately as possible.Then,the translator worked to achieve a balance between the original text and the target text through compensation.Based on George Steiner’s fourfold translation motion,this report utilizes a range of translation strategies to analyze case studies,and points out the findings and limitations of translation practice.This report hopes to offer insight into translation practice and provide a reference for future translators.
