Since India’s independence,India-US relations have always occupied an important position in India’s foreign policy.Although the development of the relationship between the two countries during the Cold War was not smooth sailing, showing ups and downs and full of twists and turns and turmoil, they have never interrupted and kept in touch. This laid the foundation for the warming up of relations between the two countries after the Cold War.After the end of the Cold War,the bipolar structure disintegrated, quickly removing the biggest obstacle to the development of India-US relations.Almost at the same time,India started economic reforms. After the reforms,India has shown great potential for economic development and has broad market development prospects. At the same time, the U.S.South Asia policy has changed, and the importance of India has become more prominent.India-U.S.relations have also developed. After Vajpayee came to power, although the relationship between the two countries was temporarily affected by India’s nuclear test, the overall situation continued to heat up.The two countries rely heavily on each other politically to push the other to serve their own national strategic goals.Economically, mutually beneficial trade and investment are constantly increasing.Military security cooperation, the number of military exercises, and the number of arms sales are also increasing. In the case of mutual needs,India and the United States will gradually move towards a strategic partnership, laying the foundation for the further development of India-US relations, and will have a certain impact on South Asia and the world pattern. However, there are certain differences between the two countries on nuclear non-proliferation,Pakistan and national strategic guidelines, and the further deepening of bilateral relations will be restricted to a certain extent. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, this article is divided into three parts. The first part is mainly about the development of India-US relations in previous governments of the Vajpayee government, the background of the bipolar situation between India and the United States before the end of the Cold War and India’s non-alignment policy Under such circumstances, the development of bilateral relations has been constrained, presenting an unstable state of alternating crests and troughs. The second part mainly describes the favorable factors and unfavorable factors that hinder the deepening of political, economic and security cooperation between the two countries during the Vajpayee government period. The third part mainly discusses the influence of mutual demand between India and the United States, the future development trend of India-US relations and the influence of the relationship between the two countries on the regional and world structure under the foundation laid by the Vajpayee government for the development of India-US relations.
