Listening comprehension is a significant part of English teaching in primary and high schools.Listening strategies are the key to success in listening comprehension.Listening strategies can encourage learners to actively participate in the information processing of listening materials rather than passively receive it.In this regard, listening strategies have been widely valued by scholars at home and abroad. Therefore, listening strategies training is particularly important. However, most of the studies on listening strategies training have not paid attention to the differences in individual Tolerance of Ambiguity.Tolerance of Ambiguity is an individual’s acceptance of complex situations without clear boundaries. The difference in individual Tolerance of Ambiguity is a key factor that affects their listening strategies use. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out a research on English listening strategies training based on the difference of Tolerance of Ambiguity. This study selected 78 students from a junior high school in Guangzhou as the research objects. In particular, three research questions are put forward:1.Do differences in Tolerance of Ambiguity levels affect junior high school students’ use of English listening strategies?2.What are the effects of English listening strategies training under the difference of Tolerance of Ambiguity on junior high school students’ listening strategies use?3.What are the effects of this listening strategies training on improving junior high school students’ English listening scores? This study adopted both a quantitative and a qualitative research approaches, with two questionnaires, two listening tests and a semi-structured interview as the main research tools, and uses SPSS26.0 to conduct descriptive analysis, variance analysis and independent sample T-tests on the collected data. After analysis, the author had the following important findings:1.There are some differences in the use of English listening strategies among junior high school students with different levels of Tolerance of Ambiguity.Students with high Tolerance of Ambiguity are better at using listening strategies than those with low Tolerance of Ambiguity.2.The English listening strategies training for junior high school students based on the difference of Tolerance of Ambiguity has a positive impact on junior high school students’ listening strategies use,but the impact on the students with low Tolerance of Ambiguity is greater and more obvious.3.This training can improve the overall listening performance of junior high school students with low Tolerance of Ambiguity. The above research results provide different research perspectives for English listening strategies training, hoping to give some useful inspiration to English teachers.
