Study On Zeng Yu’s Poetry

Zeng Yu is a famous poet,parallel prose writer and document writer in the QianJia-Dao period of the Qing Dynasty.He is a native of Nancheng,Jiangxi Province.In his life,he traveled many places,learned widely,and always loved the creation of poetry and prose.Zeng Yu’s poems truly record his life experience and reflect his communication and inner world in different periods.At the same time,he also has many poems that truthfully represent the situation of people’s livelihood at that time,reflecting his feelings of loyalty to the monarch,patriotism,concern for the country and the people,and have artistic and ideological values that cannot be ignored.However,the current academic research on Zeng Yu is relatively limited,focusing more on Zeng Yu’s shogunate and friends,and the research on his poetry is still insufficient.Therefore,based on previous studies,the author studies Zeng Yu’s poems by studying and sorting out the texts such as Poems in the Rain,its Outer set and Han Shang Ti Jin Collection,and combining other relevant materials.According to Zeng Yu’s life and the changes of his poetry style,this paper divides his poetry creation into three stages: the early stage from the mentality of the guest to the elegant leader.Zeng Yu has gone through the north to seek fame,the death of his family members,and the ups and downs of officialdom,resulting in a guest mentality of life.When he served as the salt envoy of the Huainan-Huaibei areas,he opened the Ti Jin Guan and made extensive contacts with scholars;The middle stage from the description of landscape scenery to gradual aged.Zeng Yu traveled around Hunan,Hubei,Guangdong,Guizhou,Guangxi,Jiangxi and other places,experienced the people’s feelings,made friends with scholars from all over the country,visited the landscape,and constantly enriched the theme of poetry.At the same time,he wanted to return to his hometown and live in seclusion more,and his poetry was bleak,mellow,and more archaic;The late stage from the old and weak to the bright and open.After two years in Yangzhou,poor control of salt,and relegation in Beijing,Zeng Yu,who was in his 60 s,often wrote about the old and weak,but had a kind of cool and open mind.Through sorting out Zeng Yu’s poetry collection,the author classifies the representative subject matter of Zeng Yu’s poetry into five categories.First,the documentary of mountains and rivers,the feelings of travel,which reflects Zeng Yu’s love for the rivers and mountains and his delicate and sensitive inner world.Second,the performance of singing and giving a farewell to friends highlights Zeng Yu’s wide circle and his cherish of friendship,and reflects his mutual influence with the literati at that time.Third,chanting history and recalling the past and feeling the rise and fall reflect Zeng Yu’s thought of being loyal to the emperor,patriotic and loving the people.Fourth,missing the farmhouse and desperately wanted to return to the countryside.Zeng Yu had already been tired of officials and was advocating seclusion,which was influenced by Tao Yuanming and Su Shi.But this was in conflict with his political ambition of loyal to the monarch and serving the country,so he could only use poetry to express his ambition;Fifth,focusing on reality and lamenting the hardship of the people reflects Zeng Yu’s feelings about the country and the people,with a strong sense of realism.Zeng Yu’s poems not only have rich subject matter content,but also have distinctive artistic characteristics: they have various genres and large opening and closing of structures;Long length system,making good use of the series of poems;Strong bones,deep voice,clear and magnificent;Desolation and melancholy,deep and profound.This was mainly caused by the social background and academic fashion of the time,Zeng Yu’s official and social experience,and his multiple-learning and inclusive poetic thoughts.The external factors that influenced Zeng Yu’s poetry creation were the social background of the transition from prosperity to decline during the Jiadao period,the prosperity of textual research in Qianjia period,the colorful poetic world,the multiple official positions,the profound knowledge of folk customs and peer communication,and mutual influence.The internal factors that influence his artistic characteristics are his extensive learning of excellent people,his emphasis on gentle and sincere loyalty and love,and his personal thought of integrating Confucianism,Buddhism,and Taoism.Zeng Yu’s poetry is an important part of Qian-jia-dao’s poetry.With his undeniable number of poetry creation,rich creative themes and unique artistic features,he has played an indelible role in promoting the development of Jiangxi poetry,the prosperity of Yangzhou regional culture and the development of Qing poetry in the middle and late Qing Dynasty.
