Watercolor painting is a form of painting with water-soluble pigments on special watercolor paper or other absorbent materials.It can be switched between transparent and heavy,moist and dry effects to create a rich work effect.It is one of the artistic forms with charm and vitality.Since the end of the 19 th century,more artists are no longer satisfied with the depiction of real things and began to shift the focus of creation to the expression of their own inner world.Through the creation of the atmosphere and emotional expression of the picture,the theme of the work is no longer limited to the record of the external world,but more emphasis on the presentation of the creator ’s inner world,so that the viewer and the work resonate.This paper analyzes the needs of watercolor painting for atmosphere construction and emotional expression,and then analyzes the atmosphere construction and emotional expression in detail.It is concluded that the former can be constructed by composition,content and tone,and the latter can be conveyed by color,stroke and technique.In the following text,the works of artists such as Dumas,Schiller,Monk and Turner are analyzed in detail to verify the rationality of the above conclusions.At the end of the article,the conclusions of the research and analysis are combined with the author ’s creative practice,summarized in detail,and finally achieved the expected results at the theoretical and practical levels.This study adopts literature survey,image analysis,comparative analysis and other research methods,extensively consults the literature related to the research subject and actively combines through creative practice and aesthetic appreciation,and finally proves that atmosphere creation and emotional expression play an extremely important role in contemporary watercolor painting creation,as well as the ways and means to achieve it.
