| The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)points out that vocabulary learning is neither simple memorization of words nor isolated word practice.It should be integrated language practice that is carried out in combination with a specific theme and in a specific context.Vocabulary teaching in junior high schools should aim to help convey ideas though listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing,as well as to build different lexical networks,and finally internalize vocabulary.The requirement of combining learning with using is consistent with Learning-using Integrated Principle of Production-Oriented Approach(POA).In order to improve the effect of students’ vocabulary learning and the quality of teachers’ vocabulary teaching,this study attempts to construct a vocabulary teaching model in junior high schools,based on the teaching procedures of POA.And the study intends to answer the following questions:(1)What effective POA-based English vocabulary teaching model could be applied to junior high schools?(2)To what extent does POA-based English vocabulary teaching model affect junior high school students’ vocabulary learning?In order to answer the above questions,the researcher conducted two rounds of action research.Before the action research,the researcher built up a vocabulary teaching model based on POA(Model One),according to the results of literature research,questionnaires,and interviews.During the action research,different research methods,such as questionnaires,interviews,classroom teaching observations,tests,and reflections were used to explore the effect of the vocabulary teaching model in practical teaching,aiming to improve the teaching model originally designed.After two rounds of “plan,action,observation,and reflection”,Model One was modified twice.At the end of the first round of action research,Model One was changed to Model Two.And at the end of the second round of action research,Model Two was modified again into Model Three,which can give guidance to English vocabulary teaching in junior high schools.The data analysis indicated that the vocabulary teaching model based on POA had a positive effect on junior high school students’ vocabulary learning.This study first interpreted the vocabulary teaching model based on POAin detail according to the teaching links of motivating,enabling,and assessing.And then,the method of triangulation was used to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the model,from the perspectives of students,teachers,test results,and the researcher.Finally,five relevant suggestions were put forward to help teachers better use the teaching model based on POA.This study is a tentative exploration of the application of POA to junior high schools,hoping to provide useful implications and methods for English vocabulary teaching. |
