Research Background: Cultural identity is the deepest identity of a country,as well as the understanding and recognition of the common culture owned by individuals and groups. The connotation of cultural symbols and special value system of traditional national sports are the foundation of consolidating cultural identity, and the excellent traditional culture represented by Guangdong Lion Dance is the embodiment of cultural identity. Objective: To demonstrate the relationship between Guangdong Lion Dance and cultural identity, and to explore the mechanism of lion dance in promoting cultural identity.Research objects and methods: This paper combines quantitative research with qualitative research, taking Guangdong Lion Dancing and cultural identity as research objects. In terms of quantitative research,long-term rural residents are taken as survey objects, and questionnaires and mathematical statistics are used to explore the impact of whether participating in lion dance activity as an independent variable on cultural identity,a dependent variable,in spatial behavior, cognitive belief, memory emotion and other dimensions. In terms of qualitative research, taking the organizers, managers, participants and practitioners of lion dance activities in P and S villages of Guangning County as the objects of investigation, field investigation and in-depth interview are adopted to clarify how lion dance promotes the cultural identity of rural groups from the three levels of objects, space and memory.Research results:(1)In the three dimensions of lion dancing and cultural identity, there is a significant positive correlation between cognitive belief and spatial behavior, with a correlation coefficient of 0.730;Memory emotion was positively correlated with spatial behavior and cognitive belief, and the correlation coefficients were 0.875 and0.791.The correlation coefficient between the number of annual lion dance activities and the three dimensions of cultural identity is 0.350-0.597,showing a significant positive correlation. Therefore, the annual participation in lion dance activities is correlated with each dimension of cultural identity.(2)After excluding the intervention of irrelevant variables by linear regression,it is concluded that the direct factors affecting the cultural identity of rural groups are whether they participate in lion dance activities and the number of activities they participate in each year. The β values of the independent variable of whether to participate in the lion dance activity in the three dimensions of cultural identity, such as spatial behavior, cognitive belief and memory emotion, were 0.658,0.379 and0.551,respectively,with P values <0.001,showing very significant differences. The βvalues of the independent variable of annual activity participation in the three dimensions of cultural identity, such as spatial behavior, cognitive belief and memory emotion, were 0.591,0.340 and 0.507,respectively,with P values <0.001,showing a very significant difference. This indicates that participation in lion dance activities has a positive impact on improving villagers’ cultural identity. The more times they participate in activities each year, the stronger the villagers’ cultural identity will be.(3)Guangdong Xingshi has experienced a process of disintegration, watchkeeping, clarification and reconstruction in the development of local fields.Due to the rapid development of modern urbanization, rural people flow from the countryside to the city, which leads to the disintegration of their traditional social structure, and the inheritance subject faces the fault crisis.Rural elites play a leading role in the organization and construction of cultural activities, and pass on the lion dance from generation to generation under their leadership, realizing the inheritance and development of traditional culture.(4)Under specific cultural fields such as local geographic space,Dancing Lion is inherited by social groups composed by individual members of society. It is a form of collective cultural inheritance based on consanguineous, geographical and industrial ties.It enriches individual daily life through colorful performances during the Spring Festival, maintains emotional harmony among rural groups, and improves collective happiness.Research conclusion:(1)The participation frequency of lion dance activities can positively affect the cultural identity of rural residents.(2)The core layer, mainly composed of drums, lion heads, folk objects and other artifacts,is the embodiment of villagers’ belief in dancing lion,as well as their recognition of its cultural value.(3)The protective layer mainly consists of family ancestral halls, martial arts venues and public fields, which is the recognition of the cultural norms of lion dancing. The etiquette and custom culture carried by the space regulates the behavior of rural groups.(4)The expressive layer, which is mainly composed of life expression, festival celebration and ritual performance, reflects the collective emotional expression of Dancing Lion, and shows people’s recognition of Dancing Lion in the cultural form. |
