The 19th Party Congress proposed the implementation of the rural revitalisation strategy,of which the prosperity of industry is the focus.Promoting the industrial development of rural areas is the key to enhancing the economic vitality of rural areas, promoting the integrated development of urban and rural areas and realising rural revitalisation. In the process of international rural development and the enhancement of rural economic development, relying on the cultivation of local special economic crops, which in turn leads to the industrial transformation and upgrading of rural areas and the reconstruction of the countryside,is an important way for rural industries to flourish. In geographically suitable areas, the development of vegetable cultivation is an important way of economic development and rural revitalisation in such rural areas. This paper takes Fugou County,a large vegetable-growing county in Henan Province,as the research area.Using a combination of data statistics and field research,it analyses the evolution of vegetable development, the spatial distribution characteristics of vegetable cultivation and the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of cultivation specialisation in Fugou County, and explores the influencing factors affecting the development of vegetable cultivation specialisation. The main findings are as follows:(1)The vegetable-growing villages of Fugou County have spatial proximity to the county town and the main roads of the river.(1)Cluster around the county town.Vegetable-growing villages are mainly clustered around the county town at a distance of 20 km.(2)Concentrated near the river.Vegetablegrowing villages are concentrated at 8 km near rivers and show a gradual increase, with the greatest increase in numbers between 2013 and 2022.(3)Distributed along major roads.Provincial and national roads play a key role in the development of vegetable growing villages,as shown by the fact that vegetable growing villages are mainly located within a 10 km buffer zone along traffic, meaning that roads act as an important bridge between agricultural production and marketing and can provide better market and logistical support for vegetable growing.(2)The spatial agglomeration of vegetable-growing villages is a distinct feature.(1)The number of vegetable-growing villages in Fugou County has gradually increased and shows certain stages of development, which can be summarised as: the start-up stage, the expansion stage, the agglomeration stage and the modernisation stage.(2)The state of development differs at different times. The vegetablegrowing villages show a decentralised development state, which indicates that the number of Fugou County is increasing throughout the county.Meanwhile, from 2016 to 2022,the R value of the nearest neighbour index(1.411 to 1.142)gradually decreases, indicating that the spatial distribution state transitions to a state of agglomeration, which means that when the number of vegetable-growing villages reaches a certain level, they begin to spread or move to other areas, which leads to a gradual decrease in the distance between vegetable-growing villages and the formation of a more concentrated distribution.(3)The phenomenon of spatial agglomeration is obvious. The results of the nuclear density analysis show that it is mainly concentrated near the county town and in the southwestern part of Fugou County, and shows a continuous development trend.(3)The overall spatial characteristics of the specialisation in vegetable cultivation show a significant positive correlation.(1)The scale of vegetable cultivation in Fugu County shows an overall trend of growth, with significant differences between townships.(2)The hot spots are concentrated in the eastern part of Fugou County, while the cold spots are concentrated in the southwestern part of Fugou County, and the spatial pattern of "hot in the northeast-cold in the southwest" is shown with the river as the boundary.(3)The overall spatial autocorrelation of vegetable cultivation specialization is shown, and the global Moran index is gradually increasing. In terms of local autocorrelation, the HH and LH agglomeration areas show spatial contiguity and spreading characteristics, and the agglomeration areas have proximity and spillover characteristics.(4)There are significant differences in the effects of factors influencing the specialisation of vegetable growing on the role do specialisation.(1)Resource endowment: the regression coefficient of0.018 for arable land per capita implies a significant positive effect on the development of vegetable specialisation.(2)Economic base: the regression coefficients of disposable income per capita and village collective income were 0.016 and 0.005 respectively, and the development of disposable income per capita as well as village collective income also had a positive effect on the development of specialisation.(3)Market accessibility: the regression coefficient of e-commerce distribution sites was 0.04 and passed the significance test at the 5% level, indicating that e-commerce distribution sites have a significant positive impact on vegetable farming specialisation.(4)Technological factors: The regression coefficient of agricultural processing enterprises was 0.005,and technological factors have a certain status in the development of vegetable specialisation.(5)Government policy: combined with the research questionnaire, government policy occupies an important position in the development of the vegetable industry. The above findings based on the specialisation of vegetable cultivation in Fugou County provide a theoretical basis and data to support the development of specialisation in vegetable cultivation under similar geographical conditions.Areas farther away from the county, rivers and major transport roads, their proximity to external transport and the availability of resources make them more suitable for vegetable cultivation under the same conditions;the establishment of e-commerce sites to enhance market accessibility and technical training to improve farmers’ vegetable cultivation skills are very conducive to the development of vegetable cultivation specialisation. In addition, due to the limitations of the data, the study did not consider the role of new cooperative organisations in the development of vegetable farming specialisation, which should be supplemented in the next study.
