| For a long time,“exam-oriented education” has influenced the development of English reading assessment in China.Nowadays,most schools adopt summative assessments for students’ academic performance,and teachers also tend to neglect students’ development in the learning process.With the proposal of TLA integration(Teaching-Learning-Assessment integration)in the new curriculum standards,more and more scholars have devoted themselves to the research on TLA integration and emphasized the assessment ought to be carried out throughout the whole process,and the learning activities should be consistent with the teaching objectives.As one of the most important types of English instruction in junior high school,the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration not only helps to implement the requirements of English curriculum standards for developing students’ English core competencies but also plays an important role in improving teachers’ professional literacy.After sorting out the results of previous research,the study is based on the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives,Reverse Instructional Design,and SOLO Evaluation Theory and conduct three rounds of action research lasting for a semester.The subjects are 6 teachers from the English teaching preparation group and 46 students from Class 16,Grade 9 of Junior High School in Jiangmen City,Guangdong Province.Through the questionnaire and interview,it is found that most English teachers lack an understanding of the theory of TLA integration,and few of them apply TLA integration in English reading instruction.Hence,under the guidance of theory and practice,an action research plan for the implementation of reading instruction on TLA integration is designed according to the analysis of the current situation,and classroom observations and interviews are employed to analyze the reasons influencing the problems,then suggestions are provided for better-implemented English reading instruction on TLA integration.The following questions are mainly answered in this study:(1)What are the problems existing in the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration in junior high school?(2)What are the reasons influencing the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration in junior high school?(3)How can the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration be optimized in junior high school?After conducting three rounds of action research,there are several problems in the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration.These problems include:(1)the lack of the understanding of English curriculum standards and student needs affecting the comprehensive and scientific of teaching objectives;(2)the shortage of depth in the teaching content and learning activities of failing to reflect the subjectivity of students;(3)weak impacts of classroom assessments hindering the improvement of students’ core competencies in the English subject.The reasons contribute to the problems as follows:(1)not fully understanding the connotation of the theory of TLA integration;(2)inadequate classroom regulation abilities during the implementation of English reading instruction on TLA integration;(3)insufficient educational research awareness and professional literacy for TLA integration.Based on the results,the following suggestions are proposed.Firstly,English teachers are supposed to strengthen goal awareness and ensure the teaching objectives,learning activities,and assessment tasks sharing the same objective.Additionally,during the teaching process,teachers ought to optimize the design of teaching activities,and use realistic context and interactive learning to stimulate students actively participating in class.At the same time,teachers need to improve classroom regulation abilities to prompt the effectiveness of teaching through assessment tasks.Lastly,it is necessary for teachers to raise research awareness and improve professional literacy to promote the further development of English reading instruction on TLA integration.This study aims to enhance the effectiveness of classroom teaching,improve teachers’ research awareness and professional literacy,and use for reference to implement the English reading instruction on TLA integration in junior high school. |
