| In recent years, the cultivation of children ’s mindsets of intelligence has become a hot topic in education.Mindsets of intelligence can not only affect children’s academic performance, learning motivation and psychological frustration tolerance, but also significantly predict interpersonal relationship, work attitude and psychological well-being in adulthood. However, there is still a lack of research on the influencing factors and internal mechanisms of children’s mindsets of intelligence. In order to understand the reasons for the formation of children ’s mindsets of intelligence. From the perspective of intergenerational transmission of mindsets of intelligence, this study explores the chain mediating role of parental failure beliefs and feedback patterns between parents and children’s mindsets of intelligence. In the study 1,812 children and their parents from grade 4 to grade 6 were selected from four public primary schools in Hebei Province as subjects. The “Mindsets of Intelligence Scale”,“Parental Failure Belief Scale” and “Parental Feedback Mode Questionnaire” were used as research tools to explore the relationship between parental mindsets of intelligence, failure belief, feedback mode and children’s mindsets of intelligence.Based on the quantitative study,Study 2 conducted semi-structured interviews with parents of children who scored high and low on the “growth mindset” in Study 1 to validate the results and model of Study 1 and to further explore parenting styles that are conducive to the development of growth mindset in children. The results of the study were as follows:1.There was a significant correlation between parental mindsets of intelligence, failure beliefs, feedback patterns and children’s mindsets of intelligence.2.Parental mindsets of intelligence significantly and positively predicted children’s mindsets of intelligence.3.Parental failure beliefs(failure-is-enhancing mindset,failure-is-debilitating mindset)mediated the relationship between parental mindsets of intelligence and children’s mindsets of intelligence.4.Feedback focused on success mediated the relationship between parents’ mindsets of intelligence and children’s mindsets of intelligence.5.Parental failure growth perspective and success-focused feedback mediated the chain between parents’ mindsets of intelligence and children’s mindsets of intelligence.6.The qualitative study verified the results of Study 1 that parental mindsets of intelligence can ultimately influence the formation of children’s mindsets of intelligence by influencing parents’ failure beliefs and feedback patterns. Therefore, the development of children’s growth mindset can start from the parents’ perspective by enhancing their growth mindset and improving their failure beliefs and feedback patterns, which may be an important way to improve the level of children’s growth mindset. |
