Olafur Eliasson pays attention to the relationship between his works and nature and the audience. His personal creations include a variety of media installations, images, paintings, etc.,and even cover design and architecture. He is good at using technology to create. One of Eliasson’s most iconic works,The Weather Project, exhibited at the Tate Modern in London in2003,explores human perception and control of nature and climate by creating a virtual indoor sunset landscape. In this paper, the author combines Baudrillard’s simulacra theory with Heidegger’s concept of poetic dwelling in phenomenology, and tries to restore the profound meaning of Eliasson’s works through this theoretical perspective and vision. However, the author’s view is somewhat different from Baudrillard’s simulacra.Baudrillard’s concept of simulacra is from the perspective of criticism of simulacra, while the author is from the perspective of contemporary culture. Therefore, this will make us pay attention to what is reality in art.Western philosophy has made a lot of progress and breakthroughs in the 21 st century, and looking at Eliasson’s works with these breakthrough theories will give us a new perspective.By interpreting Eliasson’s most famous work,The Meteorological Plan, this paper discusses the philosophical theory behind the work from two perspectives: simulacrum and poetic dwelling."Living in simulacra" has an important realistic impact on contemporary art,and this working method was ignored in the modernism period. The reality of simulacra may bring more artistic experience, which can surpass the reality of the real.In the author’s opinion, the dimension of this working method should not be ignored. Therefore, studying Eliasson and his work can help us better understand and appreciate contemporary art,and we can draw inspiration from his work to think about how art can better lead us to explore the problems and challenges of contemporary society, and how art can better contribute to human thinking and progress.
