Vasili Eroshenko(1889—1952),a Russian "blind poet",had an ill-fated life.He was blind due to measles when he was young. He left Russia at the age of 25,and was long in exile and expulsion. But when he came to China in 1921,he received keen attention from Chinese intellectuals at the time. Not only many writers and translators began to systematically translate his works and introduce his life experience. Moreover,he was invited by Cai Yuanpei to teach Esperanto at Peking University, and gave many speeches at Peking University,Russian Law and Politics School,Beijing Women’s Higher Normal School and other places, where he was warmly welcomed by teachers and students. In the 1920s,especially in the period from 1921 to 1923,with his legendary experience, special identity, unique creation, and profound thinking,Eroshenko set off a rapid but far-reaching"Eroshenko fever" in Chinese intellectual circles. From the perspective of modern Chinese literature,on the basis of clarifying the creation and anarchist thought of Eroshenko, and starting from the background of the development of Chinese anarchist thought, this paper explores the beginning and end of Eroshenko’s visit to China and his interaction with modern Chinese literary writers, analyzes modern writers’ acceptance of Eroshenko, and uses this perspective to understand the influence of Eroshenko’s creation and his anarchist ideas on Chinese intellectuals in literary creation, literary activities, and social activities. From the perspective of literature analysis, this paper will also conduct a detailed review of Eroshenko’s visit to China and its connection with Chinese intellectuals. With Lu Xun,Tian Han,Ye Shengtao,Ba Jin,Wang Luyan and Li Guangtian as representatives,it will explore the connection between the literary creation of modern Chinese writers and Eroshenko’s visit to China by case analysis method. The full text is divided into six parts:The introduction mainly introduces the background of the topic selection of this research, summarizes and analyzes the current research results of this topic, and clarifies the significance and main research ideas of the topic selection. The first chapter focuses on the creations and ideas of Eroshenko.Firstly,it briefly introduces the creative situation of Eroshenko, and analyzes his poetic characteristics and practical concerns, opposing narrative structure and tragic ending from the artistic characteristics of his fairy tale works. As an anarchist,Eroshenko preached humanitarian equality, freedom and human love, and he is just starting from the idea to reflect on Chinese society. To a certain extent, the revolutionary utopian literary creation and commonality ideas of Eroshenko also influenced the spread and development of anarchism in China. The second chapter mainly sorts out the process of Eroshenko’s visit to China.Firstly,it introduces the early reports of Eroshenko in the Chinese cultural circle with Consciousness as the center. And then talking about the reason for his visit to China,Chinese intellectuals accepted the blind poet with sympathy for his tragic experience and the desire to find their own way out.Subsequently, this chapter introduces the main activities of Eroshenko in Beijing and Shanghai, and analyzes the reasons for the formation of "Eroshenko fever"from the perspective of the development of the anarchist movement and the Esperanto movement in China.Based on the loneliness" of Eroshenko, this paper explores the internal influencing factors of the rapid transformation of "Eroshenko fever"from prosperity to decline. The third chapter discusses the dealings between Eroshenko and modern Chinese literary writers, mainly involving Hu Yuzhi and other early writers of the Literary Research Society,Zhou brothers,Wang Luyan and other young writers, and discusses the profound friendship between Wu Kegang and Eroshenko, who are close to modern writers of China, and the friendship between teachers and students.Although there are differences in the identity and status of different modern literary writers, the general acceptance of anarchist and the wide identification of Esperanto by Chinese intellectuals during this period were the main factors influencing their acceptance of Eroshenko and the deep friendship with him.Chapter four focuses on the influence of Eroshenko’s visit to China on the creation of modern Chinese literature, represented by Lu Xun,Tian Han,Ye Shengtao,Ba Jin,Wang Luyan and Li Guangtian. The arrival of Eroshenko had a profound impact on the struggle between personal anarchism and humanism in Lu Xun’s literary creation,Tian Han’s anarchist ideological turn and the shaping of wandering poets in drama creation,Ye Shengtao and Ba Jin’s creation and development of modern Chinese children’s literature, and the different humanitarian orientations in Wang Luyan and Li Guangtian’s prose creation. The concluding part briefly summarizes the whole text and discusses the overall value of Eroshenko’s visit to China, although the blind poet left China, his literary works, ideas and spirit have profoundly influenced many Chinese intellectuals, and as a unique literary resource,it shines on the historical stage of modern Chinese literature.
