A historic district is a unique landscape and pattern of a city within a certain period of time, formed under the joint action of three elements: space, culture and people. The natural environment, the economic level, the composition of the inhabitants and the regional culture of the city in the development process are important factors in shaping the historical and cultural district, and it is under the joint influence of these factors that the historical district becomes an important cultural space that reflects the city and can perpetuate its culture. In recent years,in order to meet the current needs of urban economic production and urban construction, the renovation of old urban areas and traditional historic districts has been on the agenda of governments around the world, and in some areas it has even reached an urgent situation in full swing. In this process, how to make scientific and reasonable transformation and utilization of its original culture, and make it perfectly integrated into the transformation elements,so as to meet the pace of urban development without losing urban civilization, has become an important issue of urban development. This paper will explain the inner logic between cultural space and culture from the perspective of anthropology and using the theory of cultural space.Taking the food culture of old Daowai in Harbin as an example,it will analyze how to inherit and continue the current valuable urban culture more perfectly in the process of renovating the historical district, and it will argue that the main role of the cultural carrier should be played to strengthen the cultural memory. In addition to the introduction, this project is divided into five parts: the first part focuses on the formation of cultural space and the historical process of cultural space transformation in Old Daowai,Harbin;the second part focuses on the food culture in Old Daowai,Harbin, explaining the formation and causes of the food culture in Old Daowai, and providing an overall overview of Old Daowai food and snacks;the third and fourth parts take two representative restaurants in Old Daowai,Harbin,as case studies. The fifth part is a discussion part, comparing the old Daowai with the existing renovated neighborhoods, summarizing the commonalities, discussing and learning from the experiences based on the above case studies, and summarizing the spatial texture, spatial behavior, and spatial imagery, which should be adapted to urbanization and preserve the original style and appearance. The transformation of historic districts should be based on urbanization, preserving the original style and appearance, preserving and continuing the culture of historic districts, and forming a sustainable urban culture with vitality and innovation.
