A Report On The Translation Of Women In The Medieval Common Law(Excerpted From Part 3)

The source text of this translation practice report is excerpted from the third part of Women in the Medieval Common Law.It mainly analyses the roles of women in litigation cases and the limitations on their participation in legal activities during the medieval period by restating some classical legal cases.The translation practice report is composed of four parts,which are translation task description,process review,case analysis,and practice conclusion.As the third part is the core of this report,the author makes a detailed analysis of the typical translation examples and explores the suitable translation methods and skills from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse.At the lexical level,the author analyzes supplementation to the meaning of words,the choosing of appropriate meaning of words and conversion of part-of-speech;at the syntactic level,the analysis is carried out from four aspects:attributive clauses,appositive clauses,long and difficult sentences and passive sentences;at the textual level,the author focuses on the methods of reference,substitution,and conjunction to analyze the coherence of the translated texts.The common law has a profound impact on the formation and development of English legal system.The author translates this book into Chinese,which can help people know about common law and the legal status of women during the medieval period,and enhance legal awareness of modern women,so as to provide reference to improve the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics and deepen the reform of China’s judicial system.In addition,it is also hoped that the report of this translation material will provide reference for the research of legal materials translation.
