| John Luther Adams(1953—),an American contemporary composer,is widely regarded as one of the most important and innovative composers of contemporary music in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.His works involve many genres such as vocal music,solo,chamber music and symphony.Adams ’ creative inspiration mainly comes from the nature.His works focus on the relationship between the natural environment,human geography and music.At the same time,he absorbs and inherits the western modern composing techniques,and integrates his unique perspective and creative ideas,which have been engaged in environmental protection for many years,thus forming his own unique music style and music vocabulary.Become ocean is a orchestral work created by Adams in 2013.It is also one of the most representative and highest performing works.This work takes the protection of the ecological environment as the starting point of creation,and shapes a kind of sound effect that is static like the sea and has a sense of agitation.As the main material of music,its core form of “ surge ” comprehensively acts on the micro and macro structure of the work,and applies the concept of “ fractal ” in mathematics to creation interdiscipline.These elements fully reflect Adams ’ creative ideas and personal aesthetic views.This paper will deeply analyze the structure,pitch organization,texture morphology and orchestration techniques of the work,explore the reasons for the formation of Adams unique acoustic color,and refine the creative skills in his music,so as to comprehensively and accurately summarize Adams ’musical language.This paper consists of four chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces Adams ’growth experience,the influence of cultural background and the formation of creative idea,and introduces the creation background of ’ becoming the ocean ’ and the special position of the band.The second chapter analyzes the overall structure and local structure of the ’ surge ’ form as the core,as well as the structural relationship between the horizontal design of each instrument group and the longitudinal logic of the instrument group.The third chapter summarizes the pitch in the works to ’ five degrees superimposed five degrees rotation ’,’ three degrees superimposed five degrees rotation ’-based organization,describes the scale,mode of rotation.The fourth chapter summarizes the typical writing methods of static texture layer and dynamic texture layer in orchestration techniques,and summarizes the conversion of timbre and the expansion of register.Through a comprehensive study of the above part,this paper will interpret the unique creative techniques in ’ becoming the ocean ’ and the creative concept of ’ecological music ’ insisted by composers,and summarize the high research value of Adams ’ unique music style,as well as its influence and inspiration on contemporary music. |
