| The progress of modern science and technology promotes the multimodal development of human communication.People are concerned with the multimodal discourse,and communicative symbols extend from text to collaboration with text,sound,and images.With the development of globalization,the exchanges between countries in the world have become closer.With rich cultural connotation and non-fictional artistic forms,documentaries have become an important media for exchanges in the world.As a component of the national image,the military image is important to various countries.This study selects CCTV documentary "Ice Blood Changjin Lake" and American PBS documentary "Experience America: Battle of Changjin Lake" as the corpus to study the multimodal discourse in military image shaping of Chinese and American documentaries.The theoretical basis of this study is that of the visual grammar of Kress and Van Leeuvenand.The frame of reference for this study is Zhang Delu’s multimodal discourse analysis.We try to construct a framework for documentary research in the field of journalism and communication.Analysis the cultural context of documentary discourse from the current social background and genre.Analyze the multimodal encoding strategy presented by coders in reproduction meaning,interactive meaning and composition meaning.Analyze the coding intention of multimodal metonymy and metaphor realization at the entity level.The exploration and research answer four questions:(1)how the two documentary on the content theme and narrative structure shaping military image?(2)What are the similarities and differences between the visual design strategies of multimodal discourse between the two documentaries when shaping the military image?(3)What are the similarities and differences in the physical level of multimodal discourse when the two documentaries shape the image of the army?(4)How can historical war documentaries play a better role in international communication?I hope to find the differences between the two in the construction of multimodal discourse,so that help the future development of international communication of historical war documentaries,and provide reference for international communication of Chinese stories and Chinese culture. |
