A Report On The C-E Translation Of Imperfect Justice (Excerpts)

With the deepening of reform and opening-up,the exchanges between China and other countries in the fields of politics,economy,culture,and law have become increasingly frequent.Under this background,more and more works containing Chinese culture have been translated into other languages.The translation materials of this report are selected from some chapters of Imperfect Justice,a collection of essays on legal culture in the field of jurisprudence and philosophy written by Professor Luo Xiang,and the Chinese-English translation case is analyzed.This book mainly discusses the concepts and realities of law,justice,and morality,and analyzes social hot-spots by using the spirit of jurisprudence.According to the text type,language form and content,this text belongs to expressive text.This kind of text is mainly used to convey facts,information,and the author’s point of view.In order to ensure the correct transmission of the original text content,and to improve the quality of the translated text,so that readers can get a good reading experience,the author chooses Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a guidance.In the part of case analysis,aiming at the cultural-loaded words,terminology and idioms at the lexical level,the author adopts annotation,free translation,and literal translation strategies for translation.At the syntactic level,classical Chinese sentence,non-subject sentence,and run-on sentence are translated by amplification,free translation,and revision strategies.At the textual level,the step structure and the stack structure are translated by free translation,literal translation,and amplification.This report makes the author have a more systematic understanding of the translation of expressive texts,and at the same time makes the author realize that there is much room for improvement in dealing with the differences between English and Chinese.The author realizes that an interpreter should not only have a good grasp of the source language and the target language,but also be involved in a variety of interdisciplinary knowledge,have knowledge accumulation of relevant disciplines of the translated text,and pay attention to accuracy in the process of translation.
