| English writing teaching is a major content of English teaching.Students’ English writing ability is one of the aspects that can show their level of English language ability.But for a long time,most junior middle school students’ English writing ability is relatively weak,and junior middle school students generally have anxiety and fear of English writing.How to relieve students’ writing anxiety and improve their English writing ability is a problem that has been perplexing many English teachers.Based on Krashen’s theory of second language acquisition,Swain’s output hypothesis and Bialystok’s distinction of explicit knowledge and implicit knowledge,this study explores the effects of oral presentation based on imitation and recitation on junior middle school students’ English writing anxiety and writing ability.The research subjects were 60 students from two parallel classes in Grade Eight of Ganzhou No.7 Middle School in Ganzhou City,Jiangxi Province,and a 16-week quasi-experiment was conducted.During the experiment,the experimental class and the control class adopted the same teaching method in speaking classes,listening classes,grammar classes and writing classes.In reading classes,the control class adopted PWP teaching method while the experimental class adopted PWP teaching method combined with oral presentation based on imitation and recitation.After the reading class,the experimental class made oral presentations on the reading materials,while the control class didn’t.After finishing learning a unit,the students of the two classes were required to write a composition with the same topic.Pre-and post-questionnaire,and interview survey were conducted to collect data in order to answer the following three research questions:1.What is the influence of oral presentation based on imitation and recitation on junior middle school students’ English writing anxiety?2.What is the influence of oral presentation based on imitation and recitation on junior middle school students’ English writing accuracy?3.What is the influence of oral presentation based on imitation and recitation on junior middle school students’ English writing achievement?By using SPSS 26.0 to calculate and analyze the scores of the pre-writing test and the post-writing test,and questionnaire data,the main findings of this study can be summarized as follows:1.Oral presentation based on imitation and recitation can reduce junior middle school students’ English writing anxiety to some extent.The number of students with high anxiety and moderate anxiety decreased and the number of students with low anxiety increased significantly.2.Oral presentation based on imitation and recitation can improve junior middle school students’ English writing accuracy to some extent.After the experiment,the students in the experimental class have improved the accuracy of grammar and vocabulary use,and their grammatical errors and spelling errors are far fewer than those of the control class.3.Oral presentation based on imitation and recitation can improve junior middle school students’ English writing achievement to some extent.The students’ overall English writing achievement in the experimental class is better than that of the control class after the experiment.The implications for junior middle school English writing teaching are drawn from the study:(1)selecting appropriate presentation materials;(2)developing students’ interest;(3)checking students’ oral presentation in time;(4)strengthening the combination of oral presentation with writing. |
