The social characteristics of multiple nationalities and cultures co-existing in South Asia and the complex historical experience of immigrant groups together constitute the motivation that inspires Chinese directors to write about Chinese mentality and ethnic consciousness in films. From estranged race to marginal ethnic group, the identity of nanyang Chinese community is constantly reorganized in different contexts, such as family, race and national race, and its identification pattern is multiple and complex. As a reproduction of life, film art is an important medium for overseas Chinese to imagine and confirm their identity, while dispora creation is the best text to study the process of their cultural identity reconstruction. The writing mode of nanyang filmmakers’ own cultural identity is always reflected in the discrete narration of their films. The two cultural characteristics of discreteness and localism are interdependent and moving forward in a spiral structure in their works. The cultural heterogeneity and confusion guided by discrete experience,as well as the diversified and dialectical consciousness of identity, are both hidden and exact in the image representation as the mechanism of identity authentication from the diaspora criticism perspective.
